I'll put my money on the 'mug = ceramic' theory. After all, anything that holds liquid is a cup. But a mug? There's gotta be some firin' and a-glazin' goin on.

But according to an ad from the 1963 Better Homes and Gardens I just framed, they are called 'Exotic Tiki Tumblers" at the bargain price of 89 cents eadch, or 6 for 4.50. To quote: "Fashioned after Ancient South Sea Island Gods... selected for the hostess who likes the unusual. Tropic tan trimmed with dark brown'.
