I make mugs. I have a friend who makes molds and swears by plasticine. I use clay just fine.

This is a good book for the actual mold part of the process http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1579900224/qid=1087944576/sr=8-3/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i3_xgl14/104-2495668-2057550?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

it's called The Clay Lover's Guide to Making Molds: Designing, Making, Using
by Peirce Clayton

Or you could check around your area for someone who does this.. I personally hate making molds. My work style is too carefree. Once the mold is made, the hard part is over, though.

Good luck.
