Tiki Rock Poster Eye Candy Gallery (Image Heavy) Updated 5/08

Pages: 1 2 72 replies

Aloha!
I've been saving images of Tiki related rock posters for awhile now, and felt it was time to share with y'all. I'm figuring Tiki Music is a good place to post this. Most of them I got from the site http://www.gigposters.com/index.php, which is the Tiki Central for rock poster geeks. I realize there's some controversial musical artists here, but my aim is to show how Tiki has been used in this artistic medium, not to promote a particular musical artist. Some of them aren't that great, some are pretty cool, some borrow from familiar places, but they all incorporate Tiki, Hawaii or Polynesia. I did my best to credit the artist of each poster, but couldn't figure out a few. Some of these are available out there. I'd do a search on gigposters, ebay or Google the name of the artist if you're looking for one of them. I'll post more as I discover them. Enjoy!

Nice collection, I have some Alan Forbes show posters in storage featuring tikis, I will try to dig'em out and post them.

Definately a nice collection. Thanks for sharing. I've always been into concert posters and have not seen many of those.

Thanks for sharing those! A fascinating collection!

I managed to get one like the Buffett one without any mention of him at all, which is more than fine by me!

Shag did a nice one many years ago before he started signing his prints:

wow..whatta collection! how do you display/store them all?

i've always wondered how ephemerists (is that a word? keep track of their stuff..

Just to clarify what I said at the beginning of this thread, I found most of these images on http://www.gigposters.com/index.php. I do own the Rick Griffin Hawaii poster, and the Art Chantry Galaxy Trio poster, but the rest are mere jpegs collected on the World Wide Web.

SL,

http://www.enginehouse13.com/enginehouse13/02_posters.html

Scroll down a bit. They have a cool Dick Dale poster with a tiki, still available. I already ordered mine.

Hey-
Is there any chance of you selling your Cow's Poster? I love the Cow's and I love anything with TIki's on it!! I just thought I'd ask.
Thanx,
Spermy

Spermy,
Like I previously mentioned, I collected these images on the internet, and only own 2 of the actual posters shown. If you google the artist name, there's a chance you can track down the poster you are looking for. There's a lot of different places it could turn up. Good luck.

Thanks for posting the tiki posters. They all are sizzlin'! It is sad that more effort is placed in a poster than on album art these days.

Aloha Kids,

BTW, it was geat meeting you at the NW crawl. I really enjoyed your tunes.

Aloha kids,
Here's another gaggle of Tiki/Polynesia inspired rock poster images I've gathered up. Thanks to Monkeyskull for sending me the Jurassic 5 image.

Very cool collection and a great thread. Another good source for these sorts of posters is http://www.posterpop.com. The links section on that site is also worth looking at. I will be adding some posters I know about as soon as I figure out how to upload images!

WOW!! It is amazing to see again and again the level of influence that the tiki has is so many ways through modern culture.

Here's a few to add to this gallery.

Both of these are by Alan Forbes.

Awsome collection! Thanks for posting. Many I haven't seen in there.

Oh, and thanks for including that Rick Griffin poster. Proof that Tiki and Hippie can co-exist peacfully!

I actually have a signed copy of this poster...picked it up @ Amoebas in LA for $25 last December. Holiday shopping is more fun when you get yourself a little something too...

Can I pick up Dead Rocks, Surfaris or the Ventures poster at any of the websites mentioned. Great stuff!

Go here:

http://www.gigposters.com/index.php

Either search by designer (designers names are listed below each poster on this thread) or band to get to the poster you are curious about. When you see the poster you are interested in, click on it. There you should be able to contact the artist. If not, try Google or eBay. You could ask on gigposters too, but as with TC, it's good to familarize yourself with the site before posting.

psssstttt... hey Lopaka... i made you a little movie. You're even mentioned in the title. However, it's privately listed on YouTube (because of copyright concerns--I just made it for myself--not the whole world) but I'm gonna give you the link.

Don't let anyone else use it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LxqNT51iM8

I originally had plans to do something like this as a tv screensaver...a rotating Tiki Art Gallery is what I want to do on a flat tv screen...another personal project just for Hutikihi.

You are our Selector Lopaka! thanks for sharing the posters... i think its time for Arkiva Lopaka ~

This is befuddling and outrageous! There is no link whatsoever between the Fastbacks and the Walkabouts and tiki -- n o n e. How dare this poster combine tikis with things that are not tiki! And why are you, Lopaka, contributing to the ruination of all tiki by promoting these? Well, I hope you make a boatload of money on eBay from all the rich jerks who are not genuine tiki fans and who have destroyed all that is holy and deserve to waterboarded and ....

Oh, um, sorry. I guess I was a little worked up after reading a another stream.

H

Here's a flyer I dug out of my closet. This was from 1992.

Wow...these are great. Thanks for posting them. :)

Hey Rob, you sly fox, where did you get that klang und kleid poster!? :)
I don't even have one yet, but when I do, one's got your name on it !

B

My poster artist fell through for Tease-O-Rama. I was searching around and there are so many great artist that are mentioned here!

I am looking for a silkscreener poster maker (one who prints and designs) and would want to do something PG-13 that is for my burlesque show. If anyone can point me in the right direction please e-mail me at: [email protected]

THANKS!
