I spotted this mug on Ebay and I have never seen it before. At first, it sort of reminded me of the very common Trader Dick's Nugget Maori Tiki mug, with a different head (much cuter!) and hands (no thumbs up). I was thinking of bidding on it, but it seems like it is going to go for a lot, considering that there are more than 4 days left to the auction and it is already at 34 bucks. Does anybody have any background info on this mug? I am assuming that it is rare.

Whoa!
Yeah, baby!
that is an extremely cool mug.
NEVER seen that version before!
Just when you're feeling all jaded & you've seen nearly everything...something like this one pops up!
This is a rare one, expect big $$.

I am speechless, because I am clueless:
Never seen this mug before
Never heard of David Wu
Never heard of another "Polynesia" than the one in Seattle (and Spokane), which had a different type face...wait a minnit, there was one at the New York Worlds Fair...Maybe...

It's so great that to this day, unknown mugs can be unearthed.

Since the seller provided such nice pictures, I've combined and posted them to Mike's tiki mug gallery at:

http://www.tikiroom.net/gallery/marked?&page=13

so that we have a permanent record of this remarkable mug. If anyone eventually discovers its origin, please update the gallery description.

Too bad they didn't put a BUT IT NOW! On it - I saw a Mauna Loa mug last month with a Buy it NOw in it... but inbetween seeing the listing and hitting the page (and trying to stop my heart paliptations), someone bid on it, at $10.00, thereby nullifying the Buy It Now... I could have cried. Don['t know what the buy it now price was but I bet it was a damn sight less than the $100 it eventually went for!

Uh, they would be buy it now, not BUTT IT NOW. BUTT IT NOW is only available on Shecky Mugs.

Thanks Sabu- I was all ready to do it if someone else didn't! Sven is right- it is really cool that new old mugs can still pop up from a place no one's heard of before!!
