The Bone Art Place
Hand carved Bone, Jade, Wood & Pearl shell pendants, carvings, gifts & art
from New Zealand

I literally stumbled across this website whilst looking for info on carving bone for a fello TCer. The more I looked around their site, the more I felt I had to tell everyone about them. The quality of their work is exceptional.

Don't take my word for it - visit them yourself!

Hey hewey - very cool bone carvings. I haven't had a chance to try bone yet - one day soon. Wife says no more projects until I finish what I have on the hop at the moment - (doh!) do you collect anything in particular, ie. tiki paraphanalia, cups, mugs etc. maybe I have contact in Australia that may be able to help you if I can't

Hey Marcus. At the moment I don't really collect anything. This is due to lack of funds as much as anything else. Being a uni student sucks. Last year of study though :)

Thanks for the offer dude! Will probably hold you to that when I have some cash!

I have experimented w/ bone a lilbit. The book: Bone Carving by Stephen Myre is an excellent way to get started.

This is another site I came across a while back that may help people that want to pursue this interest further:

A good place to get bone blanks is to cut them yourself from bones available from the pet store. My local Petsmart has leg bones of different sizes to choose from and they're already stripped and bleached white.

The Bone art place is an excellent site and if you like that, you will like the Maori art on this site:

Maybe I will start a bone thread when I have a few pieces done. In the meantime, I hope there are others that are inspired to attempt something in bone.

Thanks ManoKoa. I will visit my local Pet Stuff. I would love to see your work.
