Thanks for the continued interest. All the mugs were made at the same time, so the finish is pretty consistant throughout the whole batch. The exterior Black is (should be) more of a matte black, than a gloss or flat finish. I still have some left for sale. I have kept track of where all the one we have sold. It has been a fun project, but I would leave the day in and day out Tiki Mug making and selling to the "Pros", Holden, Gecko,Tiki Diablo, and others. TikiGreg-Thanks for the kind words, It would be cool to have my mug considered to be a "must have".
Thanks to all that have bought!!

Mine arrived today & I must say it's not as shiny as it looks in the picture. However, it is really very cool as promised!! It got a place of honor with my other exclusive tiki mugs. Are you guys crazy? 30 bucks? Okay, Whatever. WHat makes this mug worth so much? I'm a noob - what do I know.?

HRT

TikiGap, A price is subject to whatever people are willing to pay for it. Are you insulting the intelligence of the other 200+ people that thought enough of this piece of artwork to purchase one? Are you insulting my friend Holden at Tiki Farm who made this for me? Are you insulting sculptor/artist SQUID who took time out of his busy schedule to help design and then sculpt this mug? Are you questioning why we donated a portion of the mugs sold to RFC(racers for Christ) in memory of a fallen racing friend of mine? If possible please keep your opinion to yourself unless you have done your homework and feel that your opinion has merit. Have a nice day!

PS. sold 2 more this morning, I'll add them to the list of other CRAZIES that have bought.

M

come on now everyone...

Hot Rod when you were new to the whole thing you must admit that $30 -$40 for a new mug seemed like alot. Then we all learned that most limited edition and hand crafted goods are priced much higher than what you see at walmart and ikea.

I'll never forget the first time I went to Tiki Oasis and spent $160 at the munktiki booth and got back to my car and thought what the heck did I just do? Of course now I know what the cost is to buy collectibles, limited editions and also the cost of bringing it to market. (it aint cheap)

I have lost money on EVERY tiki related project I have done and tried to sell.

In doing my own research for a monkeyman mug, I learned that the average cost of making a mug can be upwards of $12-$20 EACH. That doesnt include packaging, shipping, profit etc. Low volumne, high quality items are expensive to make.

GAP, Treat your sticker shock like you would an expensive entree in a nice restaurant. Think it but dont shout it out for all to hear.

[ Edited by: Monkeyman 2006-03-09 09:52 ]

Alright, I hadn't finished my first cup of coffee, and was a little(alot) offended. Even in the"wild" it seems that mugs and artifacts have gone through the roof. If you want sticker shock ask me how much my Ren Clark shrunken head mug is worth or my Witco bar and fountain. As much as this is fun, I take it very serious. When I made the mug, Holden told me "you wont get rich making this" but you will have fun. And I have had fun with this(SPEED TIKI)I have had people offer me less to buy the mugs, but I wont Take less. It wouldn't be fair to the people who bought early. I still stand on my last post, but I am understanding Tikigap's position. And I still take all major credit cards...

I love this place..

well said monkeyman.

Well, this mug is selling a bit more the last week on Ebay. I see that Hot Rod had no luck the last few times posted and just now three mug all from different sells all sold for more than suggested retail price. Its the nice weather.

T

Just wanted to chime in... I love my Hot Rod Tiki!!!

I have no problem with the price although, I can understand the new to this whole tiki thing confusion over prices and values etc.

Tikigap the difference is that it's a limited edition, It's a one time fabrication of a special tiki mug. If you spend a little time here you will realize that there are Tiki mugs: the Leilani for instance you could probably pick up three at a yard sale for $1.00. Then there are the true craftsman pieces like the speed tiki, Munktiki mugs, other Tiki Farm limited editions etc. these are much more desirable for their creative approach to modern tiki or an homage to the ancient tiki culture. Is it worth $30.00 in my opinion a resounding YES!!!

So if you want the three for a dollar mugs to drink out of and enjoy fine but if you are looking to have a quality collection these are the mugs to buy!!

My 2 cents! Tikisgrl

HRT

Great work teakey: I saw that a couple of my mugs sold from private parties for more than they originally sold for. I had run a couple of auctions with no luck, then a three tiki mug windfall. You never know. Tikisgrl: Mahalo for always having kind words. You are the reason we made these mugs!!

Mahalo, Don Hudson

If we make a mug and make the tool and it costs us $15 including the tool and we only make a limited run and sell them for $30 through TF or through our collectors, where is it wrong?
Holden Westland

right on, right on. If anyone thinks makin' a mug is a piece of cake, think again. There's all kinds of things that can and do go wrong, from start to finish to marketing and on and on. I'll be lucky if I break even on mine.

The Speed Tiki is one of a kind and well worth owning. Cheers :drink:

Here, here. Now I'm excited. To hear of Speed Tiki being involved with alcohol and partying is more than a father could ever ask for. If only some beautiful women were involved....

Oh yea, I agree with what Holden said(s)
I gotta believe some women were involved in Speedie #139 or 140's
wild night on the town.

Speed Tiki loves the ladies...
