I though I'd start a thread for people to post their tiki shopping suggestions to. In an effort to keep the number or rogue threads one has to sift through down.

I'm waiting to see the drawing he's done for me of Tiki Gardens in person, the scan he sent ROCKS! Or HULAS! as the case may be.

If any of you have a Lazarus in your area (it's a finer department store in the Ohio region), they have some neat purses with hula girls and one with tikis... uh, not that I personally would want one, but some of you hula girls out there might.
Actually, they are quite cute.
I forgot to get a price or maker on them though.

Wahines & Tikis on bedding. Now, if I could only convince my wife to decorate the whole house in Tiki-Style instead of my own little corner...

Last week as I was exiting the 55 Freeway in Costa Mesa, California, I almost crashed my car when I saw on my left in large letters "House of Tiki Grand Opening" over a small shop. Of course, I made a swift(legal)U-turn and checked it out. It's a beautifully decorated little shop with all sorts of accoutrements for the home such as bedding, lamps, art, tikis, etc. The store is at 1860 Newport Blvd. in Costa Mesa and their weibsite is http://www.islanddecor.com
Also, they are offering 10% off any one item through April with their post card, which you can pick up at the store. Anyhooo.... just wanted to pass it along.

p.s. If you live near a AAA office go on in and pick up a Pleasant Holidays brochure titled "Capture the 'Spirit of Aloha' During AAA's Mahalo Days®." The front has a very nice reproduction of a classic orchid-leid, hibiscus-eared wahine. Could look nice on your bar or table, who knows.

I just bought a great pair of pyjama biottoms at Old Navy in Toronto - I assume the will be in Old Navy stores across N.A. though - They are midnight blye with little hula girls and 'late night luau'printed on them. They are in the mens pyjama sextion bt I just bought XS and that worked out fine. Plus, they have boxer shorts of the same pattern, as well as coconut, pineapple and cocktail boxers.

Great collection of Tiki Gardens Postcards.

My wife and I went to Cost Plus yesterday, and found more than a few accessories that would add to a tiki themed room. No mugs unfortunately, but plenty of Bamboo shelves on sale, mirrored bamboo shelves that would look great behind your bar, and plenty of rattan and thatch.
Decent deals, and decent stuff.

For the So Cal based Tiki Centralites, check out Bamboo Ben's in Huntington Beach on Adams (south side) just West of Beach Blvd. Ben is the grandson of Ely Hedley (see page 74 of 'The Book of Tiki')which would mean, I guess, he has good tiki genes. Plus he's a real nice guy.

For tiki bar supplies such as Lauhala matting I recommend you buy from Oceanic Arts - I have done the research and have found that the place is affordable, the staff is helpful and the product is top-notch. Other places that sell the stuff are either non-responsive or insane when it comes to shipping.

if you live near an AU NATURALE store go and check out what they have in for the summer season, they've got..
hula girl nodders £3
silk flower leis (or as they call 'em flower garlands) £1
bamboo tables and chairs £25-£35
bamboo screens about £20 (these might make good tiki bar parts)
baboo pole tiki lamps (but with a glass for nightlight candles) £3
paper chinese lanterns 60p-£1.50ish
strings of small paper lanterns fairylights £15
and at the moment there doing a pack of paper cocktail umbrellas free with every cocktail glass (I picked up half a dozen martini glasses at a pound each)
oh and if that ain't enough if you have your own buisness you can get a discount card that gets you 20% off.

a belated big hello to atomictonytiki -- lovely to see another Brit on here. Great tip-off about Au Naturale -- I'm trying to find out if they have a presence down South (no website -- I'll actually have to TALK to someone...)

Just back from the car shows in Pigeon Forge, TN. Man, did we find some tiki buys down there!
Unfortunately no good vintage mugs, but some great (Mainstream) finds, none-the-less.

1.) Old Navy Outlet. Stacey found her a "Tiki Lounge" visor. I saw some pajama bottms, but since I don't wear them, I passed. Cute tiki kids shirts.

2.) Disney Store Outlet: All Mickey fans, take note. My brother and I bought some cool Disney-tiki shirts for $19.99. (Beige in color with little dancing Mickeys and Donalds around huts and Mikey / Donald tikis). Actually very cool, even dressy down there! Traditional Hawaiian style.

3.) Gap Outlet: Don't get me wrong, I rarely wear Gap - but could not pass up a cool shirt with a traditional temple tiki on it for $2.00!

4.) Le Gormet Chef: Ahhh, modern tiki stuff - functionable, usable...and if it breaks, there are no tears! Everything for a awesome picnic luau. I got some really cool drink stirs, clear plastic tumblers (very wide), some pineapple s&p shakers, pineapple drink picture and mug with lid.
There was sooo much other stuff!! Hula girl cheese spreading knife set, hula girl bug net to keep the flies off your food, tiki candles, even a hula / tiki set of wine bottle markers - whatever that is.
If you get the opportunity to find one of these outlets - take advantage & take some money! I had a ball in this store & the great thing is, I can actually use the stuff purchased rather than simply showing it & paranoid when someone picks it up! (Com'on, I'm not the only one in here that is that way...be honest!)

Other stores within Pigeon Forge & Gattlinburg held many (commonly seen on ebay) items that one can find cheaper in a Archie McPee catalog. But atleast I saw them.

I did hit a couple antique stores, but only found one Orchids Lelani mug - too common for the price they were asking!

And, be sure to give yourself time to hit the flea markets along the superslab along the way - unfortunately my wife caught a cold and that kinda kept us from stopping as we had wanted.

hi to you as well theandrewssister, have a look on yell.com, the listings there seem to suggest that its oulets are mostly scottish/irish/north of england, so you might need to travel if you live in london.

Stingray! You were in our neightborhood! You should have said hi. And we could have sent you to some of our favorite antique stores.

Next time you go to P.F. for a car show, drop us a line. I worked up there for 6 years. Kind of miss all the cars around.

I found some clear, colored plastic Tiki mugs at Linens-N-Things for $1.99, along with some cool swizzles for $.99. Cheap, but cool looking. I imagine they could be used for lights, etc., as they have great colors.

Dang... those are some seriously inexpensive mugs. For those of you who want to serve out of real mugs at your parties (HEY MAXTONS!) then I bet this is the way to go... a dozen of those mugs and a few of the tiki shot glasses wouldn't set you back too much, and would go a long way.
