tiki and chocolate

I was at a trade show yesterday, and picked up a couple of free samples of chocolate covered macadamia nuts - very tasty, but even better was the large tiki on the outside wrapper.

Apparently familiar to anybody whop grew up in Switzerland, it hails form PRE-Tiki times. Their web page history link
( http://www.tiki.ch/geschichte_d.php ) tells of the Czech founder Hynek Boleslav Allan inventing it in 1907 (!...that was one year before Picasso bought his first Tiki! ), his son migrating to Switzerland and starting to manufacture it there in 1947. The history of what possessed Allan senior to choose that name is lost, apparently. The nice label above was brought back for their 60th anniversary, usually their modern logo is this annoying Manga character that targets the kids.

I LOVE THESE THINGS!!!!!!.hawaiian host that is....last trip to hawaii i brought back a bunch....abc stores sell them at about a buck a box and have them bagged for carry ons in pks of 10....wish i coud get back over and stock up.....online a litle more at abc store 2.49 and about a buck a box to ship......mmmmmmm....

On the subject of liquor-filled chocolates, Germany produces Asbach brandy-filled dark chocolate crescent-shaped "beans." Each "bean" is about 1.25 inches in length. These are my ULTIMATE liquor-filled chocolates in the world. The Asbach Uralt brandy is heavenly when paired with the dark chocolate. Note that if you find these, you may consider avoiding the variety with the sugar crust inside because (to me) it detracts from the flavors.
