Tiki Carver's Hall of Fame

Pages: 1 33 replies

For the past few weeks, I've been looking over this site at all the amazing tikis that our members have been carving. While all of them are great, there are a few carvers who are simply amazing - the "tiki veterans". I don't know if this has been done before, but I'm starting this post as a tiki carver's hall of fame. I will accept nominations (just message me) and if enough people think that they are worthy of induction into the hall of fame, I'll prepare a bio for each of them, and exhibit some of their most noteworthy pieces. So if you have any suggestions as to who I should add to the list, just let me know!

Here's a few of my own nominations:

Benzart,
Bay Park Buzzy,
and LakeTiki.

If you guys agree, I'll start working on their posts.
Thanks for the help!
-KeakaTiki

Do you mean you are starting a hall-of-fame thread, website, or gallery?

If it's just a thread, that's pretty silly, since MOST of the carvers on here should be included and we wouldn't want the others who don't get nominated to be disheartened.

Yeah, what he said!

With a couple hundred "active" members and at least 30 active carvers on this forum, you're likely to offend plenty of people by creating an exclusive "hall of fame." A thread like this would instigate all kinds of argument over who is worthy, what the qualifications should be, why some carvers might not qualify, etc. There is also a wide variety of taste in style here ... some only appreciate traditional Polynesian carving, some like the big-toothed Florida tikis, and others love the tiki modern point of view.

I say let the carving appreciators peruse the threads of their favorite carvers as they've been doing for years. They already know where to find the art they like, and if they don't, there are already plenty of threads to browse through. Now, if you want to create a website outside of Tiki Central and curate it yourself, then that would be a whole different thing. But I don't think TC is about exclusion, and although I don't think that was your intention, I do think that's what a thread like you've proposed would create.

Just my 2 cents.

P

Crazy Al already did it.

See his chess set and that's pretty much the HOF.

Sorry guys, didn't think about that. Just trying to start a thread...
Oh well, never mind then!

It was a good try. Don't feel like you have to START a thread to be involved in TC. There are plenty of existing threads that you can post to. Remember---the SEARCH function on TC can be your best friend.

Good idea Kinny - maybe one of the carvers could make a nice large board to write the names on. In fact if it were made from solid wood, they could come along and chisel the names in as each new "artist" is nominated. You could maybe even switch around a bit and invite guest carvers to add the names..

Tama (a carver) :)

You guys don't deserve a HOF because Other Crafts is total amateur hour. I always wondered what happened to all the state college art school majors with 2.0 GPAs after they graduated.

Other Crafts guys can have some sort of little league all star team or something.

And, I gladly accept my nomination into the Carving HOF!

Now that I'm in the HOF, shouldn't I get into tiki events for free or something?

When I die, freeze my head like Ted!
Buzzy Out!

Bologna Hats! Count me in! Make that 2!

Here's a nifty little craft project for those rainy Saturdays - Egg Ski Caps! (Oops! This should be in the HOF for Other Crafts.}

Why would eggs need Ski Caps?
Those Other Craft folks are TOO MUCH!
Most eggs prefer Bologna hats!

I'm pretty sure that I don't ever want to know what a "bologna hat" is...
shudders
Do you eat it or wear it on your head?
Or both?
And in what order?
:P

Hey KeakaTiki!
It's nothing bad!
just an amusing behavior!
You fry lunchmeat style bologna in a frying pan
and as it cooks-it rises like a dome...
and my sister and i (and millions of other children)
would put it on their head as a weird greasy meat hat...
So you'd wear it first...get your chuckles....
then you could toast some rye bread and eat it afterwards..
and that amused us...
and still does,i guess!

So ......
1)Wear
2)Eat
3) Both to answer your questions!
Mystery Solved!

There has got to be a photo of you wearing a meat hat somewhere Ken!

Looking for the "Palm Springs Meat Hat Emporium"

R

I think Kinny has found his bologna hat :D

I think Kelly is envious of Kin's fa-fa-fa-fa-fashion!

Amateurs!
What an awful Photoshoppe!
Bologna hats look like the Jewish yamakas(sp?) or skullcaps that people wear
not like a pancake with a feather!
When you fry them they rise up in the middle and
create a dome....
Also, being fried,it would have the edges burnt...
I think none of you have really worn a bologna hat...
i think you're all BoloneyPoseurs......
How did this thread get so de-railed?

R

Eh? that dun look like no dome to me!

And I never said the fashion hat was fried! It's just a plain bologna, GET WITH THE TIMES!!!

Fresh Bologna is the new Black...
:)

R

word!

Ah....
