ALOHA! Save the date- October 9-12, 2008!
The Crawl is back and more powerful than ever! New Stops! New Surprises! More rum!
Tiki Central's Tiki Crawl 8 -- Official site!

Come join in the biggest Bay Area Tiki Bar Crawl yet! Four days! Ten Bars! Savor the world of tiki with visits to bars and restaurants both new and legendary all over the Bay Area. Celebrate the rich history of tiki in the Bay Area, and its lasting impact for over 70 years. Make your plans today to join in an exciting four day weekend of good friends, good drinks, and good tiki. It all starts on:

THURSDAY, October 9th: SOUTH BAY THURSDAY

We once again return to the South Bay to enjoy two top notch spots: Smoke Tiki in San Jose and Trader Vic’s in Palo Alto. And you’ll be able to enjoy the entire event from the comfort and safety of an air-conditioned shuttle bus which will depart from San Francisco that afternoon. Don’t miss all the great times and great tunes as we kick off the weekend in style.

FRIDAY, October 10th: FRISCO FRIDAY

San Francisco continues to offer some of the best tiki bars around, both new and old, and each year is always a memorable experience as we trace the roots of tiki across the City by the Bay. We will start as per tradition at the legendary Trad’r Sam’s. Open since 1939 (or possibly 1937), Trad’r Sam’s is the quintessential neighborhood tiki dive bar, and the oldest continuously operating tiki bar on earth. Step into history at this friendly watering hole for an early happy hour meet and greet. Then it’s off to one of the last great temples of mid-century American Tiki, the Tonga Room. Located in the beautiful Fairmont Hotel, and recently given a fresh update (still plenty o’ tiki, have no fear!), The Tonga Room continues to dazzle with its amazing décor, tropical rainstorms, and potent potables. Then it’s up to North Beach to the mighty Bamboo Hut, serving up tiki goodness for almost a decade- and you won’t want to miss a very special surprise we’ll have in store!

SATURDAY, October 11TH: EAST BAY SATURDAY

All aboard the mighty Tiki Bus! The Bus returns bigger than ever (57 passenger) to escort you in style from San Francisco to the incredible array of East Bay tiki bars. Our first stop will be Forbidden Island . Located in the heart of Alameda, Forbidden Island offers true vintage tiki bar atmosphere and world class cocktails to match- you may have seen them featured in the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Food & Wine, the Today Show, and much more. Then it’s off to the Conga Lounge, Oakland’s oasis and home to expertly prepared cocktails, award-winning pizza, and an amazing atmosphere- all set to the upbeat tunes of DJ Tropic. So grab a bite and get ready for the next stop, Oakland ’s Kona Club. In a stunningly designed space, you’ll enjoy a terrific array of cocktails and beers- and don’t miss the hypnotic hula girl or erupting volcano!

After that, we’re very proud to announce that we will make our way to the place that started it all for a very special, once in a lifetime event: Trader Vic’s Emeryville!! You spoke, and we listened, and moved Vic’s to the end so that it will be our grand finale! So get ready: For the first time ever, we will be taking over their stunning main dining room for a cocktail reception like you’ve never seen! Trader Vic’s famous exotic cocktails, delicious food, and historic décor will all be at your fingers, as you mix, mingle, and swoon to the gentle hapa haole sounds of the Bay Area’s own Mai Kai Gents featuring the Mysterious Miss Mauna Loa. One gaze across the bay to the beautiful lights of San Francisco , and you’ll know you’ve reached tiki nirvana.

SUNDAY, October 12th: SLOWDOWN SUNDAY

Our Sunday afternoon tradition continues: Take it nice and easy with an afternoon trip to Forbidden Island in Alameda . Relax and talk very slowly and quietly with other tiki lovers as you vainly attempt to piece together the events of the rest of the weekend. We’re going to have a potluck as well, along with the usual shenanigans.

If you're a knuckle-walker, is it still considered crawling?

All-fours is all-fours, regardless....

I'm trying to reserve a room, and the code isn't working. Anyone else having that problem?

BUT, they really wouldn't want to call it Tiki Knuckle Walker 8. It just doesn't flow.
Move on up to the trees Grog. Much better view. I'll show you the ropes........err vines.

Hanford, have you ever had local TC Ohana host out-of-towners?

The code is most definitely active by now. If you cannot get it to work online, then for now simply call the Phoenix Hotel and reserve your room with the code that way. Right now it's late Saturday night in the middle of a holiday weekend, but we'll look into it, see what the deal is, and get any problems resolved asap.

ZAZZ!

Where exactly is the bus picking up and dropping off in SF?-"the foot of the bay bridge" is a little vague.

I am normally too busy to do this myself, but most definitely! It's a great way for out-of-towners to experience Tiki in the SF Bay Area!

Well, Then I volunteer to coordinate.

PM me if you are interested in Hosting/Being Hosted. Let me know which days you'll be attending, if there are requirements/requests, etc.

First come - first served?

Cheers!

I called The Phoenix Hotel and the reservation agent wasn't able to find the Promo Code in their system. The reservation agent transferred me to another line and they were finally able to make the reservation. Room Rate was $139 plus tax for Thurs. and $159 for Fri. & Sat. plus tax. (Free Parking and continental breakfast included)

Okay, I just got off the phone with the General Manager of the Phoenix Hotel. They set up the promo code to be used only when you call in to make your reservation, but it's not set up for their website. The reason for this is that they don't have a very flexible website that would allow you to apply the promo code to your online reservation across various dates. So you must physically call the Phoenix Hotel at 1 800-248-9466 to use the promo code Tiki Crawl 8 when making your reservation.

I repeat, in order to get the promo code discount, you must call the Phoenix Hotel to book your reservation, and give them the promo code Tiki Crawl 8 over the phone when booking your reservation. Please be patient with the staff if they don't know about the promo code right away - the folks at the Phoenix Hotel are good people, so it might take an extra minute or two to set this up, but they will definitely be willing to help.

Also, the promo code discount applies to a couple of days before and after the crawl, to give you a discount in case you are coming in from out of town and want to start your vacation early, or extend it after the Crawl. So feel free to take advantage of that if you want to extend your stay for some added San Francisco Bay Area sightseeing fun and frolicking.

T

Getting all Sven-like this summer, I have to skip Tales of the Cocktail, Tiki Oasis, and Hot Rod Hula ope this summer, due to some intense work commitments.

I think that my long-overdue return to the Bay Area may very well happen this coming October.

Yes please.

MT

We're working hard on the crawl itinerary, as well as some super cool stuff and surprises for the crawl. We're hoping to post a detailed schedule and itinerary on the website soon, as soon as we nail down a few details. So, this isn't the official word, but since the Phoenix Hotel is the official hotel of the Crawl, having the bus start there for Saturday sounds like the logical thing to do. Again, that's not the official word, yet. And Thursday is an entirely different matter all together!

See ya in SF.

Suzanne

I'm trying to see if I can swing this as I just found out Southwest has a "supersaver web" tickets for $49 one-way.

I need a little help. I checked the official TC Crawl site, I feel rather dumb, but couldn't find out what time the actual crawl starts on the 9th. I'm checking flights and checking to see if I should fly in on Wed. or Thurs morning.

M

The crawl will kick off on Thursday, October 9th at 4:00PM in San Francisco. 601 Eddy St. to be exact.

Please stay tuned for announcement very very shortly, as we just hammered out the final details yesterday.

Updated! We've announced the schedule and locations of the crawl!

Bus Tickets coming soon ....

Know its a bit early yet, but considering how fast the bus will sell out, wondering if the bus will drop off near Forbidden Island after Trader Vic's on Sat so Eastbayers don't have to drive to SF if they want to start at FI??

Yes, we will arrange for something like that.

UPDATE: we've announced bus ticket prices and when they go on sale!

These will sell out quickly, so be sure to have your paypal password handy and visit the site promptly when they go on sale!
