Seems like a lot of tiki people also appreciate
some good old punk rock music.
I decided to start this thread as an offshoot
from the "Show Us YOur Record Collection"
thread in the tiki music forum.
Start posting your pics of your favorite
KBD or current punk rock vinyl or ephemera
you have collected.

Let's start with a couple of classics. These two 45's I consider to be favorites in my collection. I can listen to these all day.

These two from the Japanese band, Balzac, lean towards the rare rather than their best work.

Last, is a very rare poster flyer for the infamous, Wayne County and the Backstreet Boys.

OK, I'm sorry about that. :( KBD/Punk goes here. But I'm confused :-? why the big fuss over the original Cough Cool 7" and no one even mentioned The Fix Vengeance original from the first picture which is worth about twice as much?

Now I'll have to to back to the other forum and post some great exotica pics.. Should I delete the punk from that forum?

Nothing to be sorry about. I just figured this would be a better thread for this and would allow us to really go off with the insanity.
The Misfits are just the iconic band that everyone drools over and their first 45(even though soundwise it ain't that great) is the jewel in the crown.Plus there have been so many boots of that, to find an original is refreshing. I could have easily talked about your Skunks 45 which is another very rare find.

Yeah, no worries, in fact I was just kidding - but I guess it's right that punk goes somewhere else.

I thought the cough/cool was up in the $1400 area now, at least to one buyer (meanwhile I got a near-exact replica from '91 worth mebbe 14 bucks). The Fix 7" cover they used for the LP re-release of a bunch of their stuff, so it doesn't 'look' as rare when you do an online search, so I never think of it as rare.
Maybe it's just me there, tho'. How much IS the Vengeance going for?

Twitch, a copy of the Fix 7" went for $3,350. on Ebay back in December of 2007. You can check old Ebay auction results for rare records on Popsike.com.

MAN! That is simply insane. There is no record on earth that is worth that much to me. I guess if I was a millionaire that would be the same as a person like me paying $50 for a record?
I didn't realize it was that rare. So, if I see a bunch of copies at a garage sale I should probably pick up a few...haha.

Yes, that's what we do.. When you can find them for .25, .50, $1.00 then we pick them up.. Dave usually won't pick up records if they're asking more than that. Now that's cheap.. and we be cheap.. It would have to be a really great LP that he wants to add to his collection, otherwise it goes back into the crate..

By the way we found a 45 and paid 10 cents for it and sold it on eBay for some where around, plus or minus $500. Just have to know what's worth what and or just take a chance and you cant lose. And your'e right, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. And to some people they'll just about pay anything to get what they want.

And we'll be out on the hunt again on Saturday. We always seem to pick up at least 5 - 10 and sometimes quite a few more..

Where do you find yours?

I VERY rarely find punk stuff out in "the wild". I did come across a guy that I contacted from a classified who had multiple copies of the Verbal Abuse lp on Fowl and also 45's. His collection was strange, cause I also got some jazz including a 10 inch of Cal Tjader's "Plays Mambo" on Fantasy, some Charles Manson records, and an original pressing of Motley Crue's Too Fast For Love on Leathur Records.
If you ever visit Socal, you should show up at the Goldenwest Swapmeet in Wesminister, CA. Be prepared for some major competition and an extra early start, but I have pulled out some very rare jazz and rare groove there.
I need to take some more pics and get more visuals going on this thread.

More folks should post some of their stuff, It doesn't need to be rare, just something you like!

T
tikipaka posted on 10/11/2008

I agree, we hardly ever find any punk or hardcore out at sales. We also come across a lot of crates where there is a lot of crap and all of a sudden you find one LP that must have just gotten thrown in the mix. Did yo notice I added the Tikis 45 picture to the other thread? I think there a a lot of large collections going on here and for some taking photos and haven't to search through all of them for a particular one to show might be to time consuming to some. That's why they have to be in categorized alphabetical order and by type, etc. Someone asks for something, you just walk over to the shelf and pull if out..

Was this pre Wayne County & the Electric Chairs? If anybody has any vinyl by Arther "KILLER" Kane's band The Corpsegrinders or Pearl Harbor & The Explosions I'd be interested in hearing from you. I still hang on to some 7"ers from the day - Destroy All Music (the Wierdos), Dream Monsters (Unit Three w/ Venus) and T.V.O.D. (the Normal) to name a few. Most of my favourite LP's were punk before punk was punk (the Seeds, The Music Machine, The Blues Magoos, The N.Y. Dolls, The Stooges, etc). As a biker friend of mine once said... "God bless them old knuckleheads and the people that still got parts for 'em" (I know...taken out of context but the spirit is in the right place)

Ok, ask and you shall receive! :D :D :D

The Back Street Boys were his early band in NY. As far as I know their only release was as part of the Max's Kanas City comp. When he went to England he put together the Electric Chairs.

Here is the Killer Kane band, the corpsegrinders & pearl harbor

We love the Weirdos too. Heres all their original records.

We also love that original pre punk sound. Here is some of our favorites we share in common.

Large poster that appears to be an unused promo for shows. Wendy Oooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Unfortunately, this is only a zerox of the original for a secret show in SF. Notice no main band name. Hmmm...who is it?

According to an interview with Penelope "The album originally came out on Go! Records, which were partners with David Ferguson [of CD Presents]. They had some falling out. He ended up suing them, and preventing them from releasing that record when they had already printed up 1000 record covers. Every now and then you can see those in collections. But I was in Europe, and basically he was dealing with Danny. So he had Danny's permission to put it out on his label."
It was then officially released with the familiar pink cover.
The owner dug up some these original covers years later and slipped in blue vinyl.
The cover says "GO! Records", but the record labels say "CD".

You guys are posting quite an interesting collection of flyers. I dig all the Pettibon stuff(I have none).
I was doing some flyer research and came across some websites charging some surprising amounts for some of the flyers I have and ones you all have listed.
I still need to get the book "F*cked Up and Photocopied". My friends tell me it's a must have for flyer art!

Tiki Kaimuki, I have well over 3000 original flyers from between '77'and '87 mostly California stuff. I lived in Huntington Beach and L.A. during that time and I knew most of the band members from O.C.

Do pick up the book F.Ud & Photocopied for sure. Also check out the book Street Art which is mostly San Francisco punk art from the day. Raymond pettibone has a book out as well.

And yeah they are worth some bucks, I sold almost all of my extras a few years ago on ebay and made a lot of money. I have been offered over 20k for my collection. I own punkflyers.net and someday hope to have an interactive site up...

Damn! So, many shows I wish I attended. I'm especially drooling over those Dead Boys flyers. I never got to see them, but at least got to see Stiv climbing up and almost toppling the tower speakers at Fender's when he was doing Lords.
Thanks for posting it all.

Just in case any of you didn't see this book or forgot about it, I though I'd post it here to put in on your nostalgic harcore radar:

My favorite one to bring up whenever people were talking about crazy punk band names was "Grandma Zuccini and the Postmortem Erections"

It has several pages of full color reproductions of album covers from that era:

Back in the day I pretty much xeroxed every picture in the book and wallpapered my bedroom walls with them.

Here's a couple on ebay buy it now for pretty cheap: Hardcore California

No. My upbringing can best be described as "humble." I was too poor for a camera, film, or developing. For some reason though, my family had a xerox machine, which I used to make my own underground zines as well as copying that book for my room decor with.

I also had a DIY label called "Ape Records" back then. I think we put out about 12 albums, well, more like dubbed cassettes with xeroxed covers.

I also had a music/humor zine called "Ape Takes" that was part of my music and publishing empire

In the early 90's, I revived Ape Records and started putting out stuff again. This time, I had a friend who had a magical new thing called a "CD writer." It cost $2000 and blank cd's were $10 each at the time. We were overjoyed when they dropped down to only $5 a piece! Each CD only took 40 minutes to write. Oh, the good old days!

:o Cool Buzzy, here's a poster Dave has from the Kennedy's show with the Bad Brains at Bond's Casino in 1982. He was to intoxicated to remember to much about the show, but when he woke up the next day he had this poster with him. He doesn't know how he got it, but he had it with him the next day.

Great thread! I went to highschool with X-8, Pooch, Tory, and Al, founders of Flipside Magazine. I had minimal involvement in the 'zine's creation, but I scanned Issue Numero Uno a while back and put it on my website, along with a history of the mag's birth and death.

Small world indeed. I e-mail Pooch occasionally, but I haven't seen him in almost 30 years. If you haven't already, you should also check out Michele Flipside's website for more Flipside memorabilia/photos.

My first copy of this. It has the great "John Wayne Was A Nazi"(prev. The Stains 45).
Classic short blasts of angryanger. It seems like most of the bands from Texas at this time REALLY hated cops.
