Ok Cats & Kittens, The contracts are signed, the bands are aaaaaaaalmost all on board, and we've got some info for ya on next years NETT. Things are gonna be a little different for next year. Different how? No buses. Yup, you read that right. Don't worry, the bus tour will return in '10, but on an exploratory excursion with RugbyMatt, we found a place that's just dying to have an event. Next year we'll be at the Tiki Resort (formerly the Tiki Motor Lodge) in wacky Lake George, NY. (Its in your Book of Tiki!!) Dates : Sept 18-20, 2009 I'd encourage everyone to come out on Thursday, or stay thru to Monday to see all the cool roadside weirdness that Lake George still has to offer. As a purely seasonal town, its remained relative unspoiled since the 60s with tons of old school architecture, and motor lodges, and crazy roadside attractions. The Resort itself is pretty much intact as well, with a Polynesian Show, a fantastic tiki bar/lounge, and a completely tikified pool area (not to mention all the tikis you'll find ALL around the resort). Tickets are going to be $75, and that includes a Polynesian dinner show (tax & gratuity included.....just sit, eat & enjoy!), bands, crawl, our usual wackiness, and some special surprises & keepsakes. The staff is making cocktails using recipes we provide, and the dinner itself is being custom tailored for us!! They're as excited as we are about having a big bunch of tikiphiles descend upon the place!! As usual, more info to come as we hash out the details, but save the dates. I'll post room booking info in about a week, and the website should be live & taking orders before the end of the year. Thanks for continuing to support the NETT, and we'll see you on the bu....ummm...at the lake! :D [ Edited by: Bargoyle 2008-12-03 12:41 ] [ Edited by: bargoyle 2008-12-09 06:03 ] |

We've got our bands!! I'm VERY pleased to announce that once again, 9th Wave, Bamboo Saxotica, and Waitiki will be joining us. There will also be a Hapa Haole band and perhaps a few surprise performances. Also, the hotel is now taking reservations. They ARE refundable (with 7 days notice) if it winds up that you cant join us, so to guarantee that you dont get left out, its a good idea to book early. Note, there are only a total of 12 jacuzzi rooms, so if you want one of those, book fast....also i think all the jacuzzi rooms have kitchenettes as well, but you should ask here's the room breakdown: 2 queen beds-------------$ 95 per night plus tax These rates are double occupancy. If you have additional guests in the room, they ask for an additional $11.10 per night. They require a 1 nights deposit (refundable) when you make your reservation. Call 518-668-5744 to reserve. Mention the "Ohana" tiki event. Oh, they are also extending these rates so if you want to come in before the 18th, or stay after the 20th, it should be fine. See you at the Lake! |

The pool was open in October when we scouted the place & met with the management. Avg temp is 75 for mid-sept, but we've had Indian Summers push the temp into the high 80s in the past....of course, we've also had cold fronts that dropped the temp to the 60s in other years. I'm hoping for the former, but banking on mid 70s is probably safe. And even if there's no swimming outdoors, there will plenty happening around that pool. Bands, vendors, cocktails, & general jackassery guaranteed to abound! And there is also an INDOOR swimming pool if you really need to take a dip but find it too cold outside. Plus the heart-shaped jacuzzi tubs in a dozen rooms are going to be trouble, I just know it. |

Assuming there's a room crawl - is there a portion of the hotel dedicated to that event - ie around the pool or a certain area of the hotel? or will it be all over the hotel? - like nettII I also note that the tubs may be a nice draw and may also not be the area around the pool? |

Oh, there WILL be a crawl. All of our rooms are bunched together in the newer section of the hotel, attached to the main building. We are essentially taking over the main building, so no need to worry about disturbing other guests, and everything should be grouped together nicely. If needed, we can also take over the other building. Hell, I'd liek to see the place 100% full with nothing but tikiphiles. We'll see.... |

It appears that your closest Amtrak station is Fort Edward, NY. You can arrange a pickup from the station by Glens Falls Transit (518-792-1085). You can also take the Adirondack Trailways bus from Port Authority in NYC. I'm already excited--Waitiki, Fisherman, 9th Wave, Bamboo Saxotica?! This is going to be amazing! |

Yay! My favorite non-potable Zombie is returning to NYC AND planning to attend Ohana. Fantastic! For flying into NYC, I prefer JFK over Laguardia...you can take Subway into Manhattan, or catch a cab, which is about $45 (there's a set fare). Newark, NJ is also an option, and depending on when you arrive, I may be able to pick you up. Let us (tabuzak & I) know what your plans are and we'll coordinate, since were driving to Ohana. PM or email...see you soon! Gina |

"Hey Bargoyle, what else is there to do in Lake George besides drink fantastic cocktails in an amazing tiki setting while shaking my moneymaker to killer live tunes surrounded by my Ohana?" Well, I'm glad you asked, voice in my head. There's a whole ton of stuff to do & see in Lake George.... Did someone say minigolf? Oh we got some minigolf for ya... Around the World Golf...voted in the Top Ten minigolf courses in the country: http://www.aroundtheworldgolf.com/photos.htm There's also Goony Golf right up the road...its been around for 30+ years, and is as wacky as ever (and kinda creepy the way the statues have aged!) http://www.goonygolf.com/ For the golfing pirate in you, there's Pirate's Cove!!! http://www.piratescove.net/location/19 And one for the ladies  .... http://www.lumberjackminigolf.com/ "But bargoyle, what about something educational? I'm too guilty about time off to not go & learn something while I'm away..." Funny you should mention it other voice in my head. We've got Fort William Henry just a 3 minute walk away: http://www.fwhmuseum.com/ And there's a couple of cool museums in the area and the Lake George Historical Association is chock full of infotainment: http://www.lakegeorgehistorical.org/ "ok, thats all well & good, but I want the pants scared off me at some point over the weekend!!" Great point, newest, creepiest voice in my head. And although the scariest thing of the weekend will probably be me doing the mystery drink dance, there are attractions that might come close. Looking for Chills? How about Dr Morbids? http://www.drmorbid.com/ Or if its thrills you seek, there's Six Flags Great Escape: http://www.sixflags.com/greatescape/ "Well, golly gee bargoyle, you seem to have just about everything covered. But what if my lady (or man) friend isn't really a rum or beer drinker. Is there anything there for the wino in my life?" Absolutely, original voice in my head. For the winos we have the Adirondack Winery (& tasting room): http://www.adirondackwinery.com/ And after you're good & juiced on vino, why not take a romantic steam powered boat ride (and possible power nap) on beautiful Lake George? http://www.lakegeorgesteamboat.com/ And if you've got any dough left after buying all the fabulous tiki wares our vendors will be selling, there's a whole bunch of factory outlet stores right up the road too!! http://www.factoryoutletsoflakegeorge.com/ And keep in mind, this is but a small smattering of the wonders the Lake has to offer. There's tons of old themed motor inns & roadside attractions, arcades and a baordwalk, and the Million Dollar Beach right on beautiful Lake George! Not to mention all the wonderful stuff we've got planned at the Tiki Resort!! If you can take an extra day before or after Ohana, you'll find it time well spent. Now, who wants Hawaiian Shave Ice??? http://www.aroundtheworldgolf.com/pinkroof.htm "We do!!!!!!!" Well then, cmon head voices...to the Pink Roof!!!! [ Edited by: Bargoyle 2009-03-20 21:25 ] |

Yes, there IS room for dancing!! And the dinner menu is being custom tailored for us. We will NOT be served the usual menu at The Perl of Paradise show (so no need to worry about Mac & Cheese!!). They will also be serving from a custom cocktail menu throughout the weekend, based on the recipes of our favorite mixologist, Beachbum Berry!! Not to mention the fantastic exotic libations that our attendees will be serving during the room crawl. Add in the seven musical acts, a polynesian show, mini-golf tournament, pirate key raffle, silent auction, vendors & carvers, and the wackiness that is Lake George, and its really going to be something special. Also, its probably not happening again until 2011 (we still love our bus tour of New England tiki bars (The NETT), and we'll be going back to that next year), so dont miss this opportunity!! C'mon out & we'll see you at the Lake!! |
