Pages: 1 8 replies

Aloha,
Mark your calendars and make your reservations now for New Years Eve at Chef Shangri-La, featuring the pounding surf rhythms of Go Tsunami. The band will do 2 sets, one at 9:00pm and the other at 11:00pm. The party starts at 8:00pm and admission is absolutely free, plus Suzy will have some drink and dinner specials! How can you beat that? So come on out, have some pupus, a few cocktails, and join in the festivities.

For reservations call 708-442-7080

There is lodging near the Chef, for anyone from out of town, that is planning on attending. Just drop a pm if you need more info....

....and here's something to consider how about a New Years Day fieldtrip to the new Chicago Trader Vic's?

One more reason to make your reservations now!!!!!!!
quick update....
Due to a combination of bad weather and the approaching holidays, the Chef didn't see much of a crowd this past Saturday night. Because of this, we decided not to do the monthly free raffle. Instead we will have the raffle on New Years Eve between sets by Go Tsunami.
The Raffle items are, a framed 2005 Exotica poster, Cocktail Preachers CD, Tiki Farm license plate holder, a various artists Lounge CD, a vintage Tiki mug, Moai Kleenex cover, vintage Coco Joe Tiki Necklace, Surfabilly Freakout T-shirt, and a Chef T-shirt. We have a group photo of items that we'll post this evening.
D&C

..also.... we will be raffeling off chin tiki vintage matchbook/postcard combos. -courstesy of our friends at http://www.catsmeowdetroit.com

....also, starting new years eve, though it hasn't been confirmed yet, i think the chef is going to bring back the tradition of carving pineapples into drink cups and serving drinks in them and if i am not mistaken, they will be serving the house specialty drink, DR. FONG, in the actual dr, fong tiki mugs from dynasty....we're gonna work to try to get those 2 things to happen there.....Chef Shangri-La T-shirts will also be available although i can't vouch for sizes as they have been selling quickly since they started making them.....

..remember, entry to this event is FREE!!!.....unlike other places that want to charge you a fortune to get in the door.....

Where is this event happening? I have some very nice friends that are moving to Chicago. They are there this week looking at houses. It would be a super way to start their new life by meeting some TC'ers in Chicago (if this is where the event is...)
Thanks!

Thanks!

Definitely send them to the Chef for New Years Eve! Great surf band, Go Tsunami, good eats, fab cocktails, and it's free! Also some great raffle prizes to be given away in between sets...

Chef Shangri-La

North Riverside, IL 60546

the chef shangri-la is located at 26th and des plaines in north riverside......riverside is next to berwyn and both are suburbs of chicago yet they don't feel like suburbs because they are only 8 miles outside the city......

i suggest your friends look to berwyn for housing as they have some of the best stock of old bungalow houses available at the lowest prices yet.....the metra is close so if they work in the city it's a short trip by train....chicago is in the middle of taxing it's citizens into oblivion right now.....this is the worst time to move to chicago city proper.....unless your friends have money to burn and don't mind insane tax hikes ....i suggest they look in the surrounding neighborhoods to avoid the chaos that is happening right now....it's only gonna get worse too.....they are expecting parking meters to charge $6.50 an hour in 2 years time for example....property taxes will be out of this world in chicago....

on another note, we spent a good part of the day fixing up odds and ends at the chef that needed fixing in time for new years......we swapped out all the nasty white bulbs behind the tiki masks and around the fountain in favor of low wattage colored bulbs.....the place looks much more ambient now. we also moved some of the witco from the main foyer and reinstalled it in the dining room due to a rash of thefts recently.....we lost a couple witco masks due to theft there in the past month so if anyone in the surrounding area sees witco masks turn up for sale on craigslist or ebay, give us a shout......we'd love to catch em and return the masks back to the chef......

..as an added bonus, we found some old vintage chef shangri-la key rings that will be raffled off in addition to the rest of the goodies bamboolodge has posted.....
