The Who is out of work thread

I figure with the economy as bad as it is, it might be comforting to know maybe you aren't the only one.
Out of work, meaning no regular paycheck except maybe the unemployment check. Crafters, hobbyist, and artists who make money from selling homemade wares may or may not apply. You can share as much detail or as little detail as you wish.

It's almost like a roll call, but you decide what you'd like to mention or not.

I also think that since we are an ohana of people with similar interests, that maybe some may know of job openings and can post or PM individuals who live nearby potential worksites, maybe lend a hand to help out a fallen TC'er.

I've been out for just over 1 year with background experience in lower level law enforcement, retail, and automotive restoration.

I can't begin to tell you how many of my everyday friends are also out of work, from Pipe Fitter Union workers, to IBEW in the field of construction. And I also know a couple of auto collision techs are out jobs, since alot of people are taking the insurance money and spending it on mortgages or other priorities, but not fixing their damaged cars with the money. AutoBody shops are SLOW.

Get off the computer and get out there and look for a Job.

just razzin ya Tom,
Hope ya find something soon bro.

GROG unemployed animator (hand drawn). Almost a year collecting unemployment. Started doing some ceramics, but don't make enough money from it to pay for for tiki drinks. Thinking about becoming a pool cleaner. Heard that even a trained-monkey could do that job. :)

Get better soon Tiki-Kate.

Ignore that person who spends all their free time leaving lame ass comments on every thread because they have no life :)

As far as being out of work :

Use craigslist but Google jobs in your area . For example if I googled "A/R jobs in San Francisco" Google popped up with 4-6 different job search sites that I never would of found elsewhere. I seriously searched about 10 sites non stop for weeks applying to anything that I was qualified for.

A paid site that some friends have had luck with is http://www.HOUND.com.

Here is another site : http://candidate.datafrenzy.com

or try

http://www.usajobs.com to try to work for the government which is actually hiring despite the state being broke!

To help put being out of work in perspective:

http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/worklife/12/15/cb.jobless.experience/index.html

It really helped me after I was laid off to focus on other things in between the job hunts.

My advice don't stress...seriously...looking back at all my sleepless nights and depressed days was such a waste of time. You will find something...it is the only ending to being unemployed after all.

I wish you luck and will try to pass along any other sites as I can find them.

Wow, I totally read the title to this thread wrong...I thought it was the "The Who is out of work thread"...I was going, "damn, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend just played the Super Bowl, what else do ya want!"

But yeah, being out of work sucks...if anything opens up in my company I'll post it. Good luck everyone.

Yep. Two days before Thanksgiving.....one week after the wife decided she wanted a divorce. Luckily, she's ok with me living downstairs. Problem is, everyone wants you to apply online. Found a few through Craigslist....Jobfetch runs the area I'm in as well. Been called back for one interview, but it didn't turn out. Now I just wait & wonder. If you're lucky, they'll send you an email saying no thanks. :(

I was out of work for almost 1 year...and applied almost 700 places.

As far as San Francisco I know of a few places that are hiring tech jobs

I only spend 1/6th of my free time here,
posting lame ass comments for your info.
