Never seen that Collins Grenadine one, very nice. Can we see a close up of the label, please?

Back in the 90s, one side branch of urban archeology I engaged in, together with Jeff Berry and Ted Haigh, was liquor store archeology. You could go into older looking liquor stores and ask them for their dusty back shelf stuff, or you would go and dig it up yourself. You could find Don The Beachcomber and Trader Vic mixes, Heublein and other Tiki decanter bottles, and weird outdated labels like the above, still, back then.

My pleasure, Sven.

Apparently you can still buy the grenadine with that label (but retailers only):

Pretty dry lately, but here a couple nuggets from a recent estate sale...

Mini liquor bottles and a Treasure Craft? bottle stopper.
The "Lelani Hawaiian Rum" has some cool pictures on the label.

Found this pair. They're about 12 inches high, no chips. $14, not a bad deal.

Not a bad deal at all! The sale I found the bottles at had a similar pair of figures I spied from across the room... Rush of adrenaline! Doh! They were the bullfighter and flamenco dancer... sigh.

A candy dish I got a month ago for $7.00.

I was really excited last weekend to pick up these Tiki brand Tiki God lights still in the box. The bulbs had not even been installed. Cool box art.

I got the guy down to $20.00 for the lights and then a few tables down got this for $8.00.

The above package, with its loud TIKI branding and graphics was one of my first finds in late 80s L.A. that send me on the search for more TIKI products.

This hole page is a great example of the diversity and the various levels of artifacts of Tiki culture! :)

My in-laws have the Mexican dancers and I recently picked up a cowboy to give to them for an anniversary present. My question is that these are unmarked, are they Treasure Craft? I would like to know to help aide me in finding a cowgirl (if made) to go with the cowboy we found.

Found a few things yesterday that were actually new to me:

One of those vintage barkcloth JCPenney matching shirt and short sets. By the size it seems like a teenager would wear it. Primo Beer stein and a Derek Yaniger/Tiki Farm mug. The mug has a couple's name on the back and a date so it looks like it was used for a wedding.

Also I found a huge bag of all these vintage felt pendants. Included were 2 from Hawaii and 1 from New Zealand.

Nothing Earth shattering but I found it all in Psycho Tiki D's hood so he doesn't find EVERYTHING :)

OK, here's a backlog of stuff I have been meaning to catch up on:

A wooden fish from Fiji:

I paid a whopping NZ$16 for this thing, and still don't know if I love it or hate it.

A coconut holder thing from Tonga ($1.50):

A souvenir plate from Tahiti ($1):

Colourful Papua New Guinea ($2), a photo book published in 1975, shortly after the country gained independence:

This book happens to have more photos of topless tribal girls than a bumper vintage issue of National Geographic, but we won't go into that here....

Gardens Of War ($2), an amazing study of tribal warfare in PNG:

This one focuses on primitive warfare up in the highlands and has some great photos of warriors and battles.

This one was found around the corner from my house, I thought the price tag said $70, thank goodness I asked "what's the best you can do on this bowl?...$8 bucks...Sold!"

Trader Vic's Bamboo Bowl 1964

Back of said bowl

Hey, Cool! Here's a shot of your bowl in action.

Just a few things this weekend:
A Coco Joes napkin holder and King Kamehameha statue and an Accoutrements mug

And a Waikiki Beach Boys album #1623 with a different cover than I've seen before.

This week's stuff:

A Bora Bora tiki:

I think this style of tiki is an example of tiki carving in its crudest form

A Trader Vic's Coconut mug:

I think this sculpt is an example of tiki mugs in their simplest form

Two CCJ's monster leaf dishes:

I think this line are examples of Coco Joe's in their cruddiest form.

Bali Hai matches:

I think this cover is an example of non-tiki, Tiki Establishment matchbook graphic.

A dole pinapple print of Hawaii:

I think this print is great example of a print of a Hawaiian Map

I got two shirts at a yard sale that I came across on my way home from the swap meet yesterday. First one:
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/4531/4c8d3cb8.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=1e70ed3a99744c5a3fcb99c34f681dd8
And then today, I saw one just like it with different buttons at the swap meet. Imagine that, two of the same shirt! It's like the Harvey's mug of shirts.

I almost passed on this one, but when I read "Sears Hawaii" on the tag, I decided it was "neat" for some reason:
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/4531/4c8d3cda.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=13e96e2db51464400a7e545190fbd41c
They both smelled clean, fit me real well, and were only $1 each. $1 sounds cheap, but she was also selling a toaster oven for 15 cents, a kitchen table for 50 cents, two matching chairs for $1, and damn near everything else there for 10- 25 cents each. So, at $1 a piece, they were the high priced feature items of the sale. I bet some big mouth shopper told her earlier in the day that old tiki stuff was collectable and valuable, causing her to raise the prices on them so high.

Buzzy Out!
