those are very similar to peter max designs.

I went to a funeral today, about half of the men there were wearing aloha shirts. This speaks to the acceptance of aloha shirts in Southern California.

I need to take some pics, but a couple weekends ago I found 4 "Go Barefoot" shirts at the local Goodwill. They are my new favorite. From the looks of the labels they are older. Pull over cotton shirts in what I think they call a reverse print (the colors are brighter inside the shirt than on the outside). REALLY comfortable. They have 4 buttons on the front. I'm guessing 70's, but could be wrong. Anyone familiar with them?

Here are a couple of my favorites:

H

My First, believe it or not it's a Ralph Lauren

My Latest & Fave

Just found this one last weekend. Shirts with Tikis on them are pretty rare around here, so imagine my surprise at finding this one in the OZARKS (Springfield Mo to be precise)!

Great shirt Silverline! by chance is it an XL? just asking....

B

Silverline - is that a vintage shirt? It's beautiful either way. Thanks.

Silverline,

Great score on the shirt! Sven needs a shot of that one for the Look of Tiki. What's with the pink hanger?

DC

It's a vintage "Hawaiian Holiday Sports Wear" made in Hawaii, size medium. Fits me just fine! The pink hanger is a yarn-wrapped, thick hanger. I use yarn or "puffy" hangers for all my vintage shirts. It lessens the stress on the shirt. I NEVER use wire or plastic hangers with good vintage shirts, especially silk or rayon shirts!

B

Silverline, that one is a beauty.. very cool... I hope to find one like that someday..

NO WIRE HANGERS! damn its a medium, all hope has been dashed, still a great shirt! I will have to learn to be happy for you Silverline! Damn!

J

I have two favorites. One I have had for over 30 years, but I am not allowed to wear it because it is too blinding.

and the other one, I got a few months ago... (yeah, yeah, I know about the wire hangers. It was just for a minute)

One of my favorites

Not a bad PNG inspired design. But what really love is the "Sportwear for the man of actio" phrase on the label.
Without a doubt it was made for me.

I have a soft spot for this one not only for its repeated wahine motif but the 70‘s period design with the double unbuttoned flap breast pockets, and the split seam waist. If only it was done in polyester instead of cotton it would be complete.

B

JonPez - my husband would never get out of that orange shirt! Glad it's yours :) It is a beauty.

The two shirts above are awesome.

I didn't know this thread was around - great idea!

W

While I like the pattern on this original Enchanted Tiki Room shirt I gotta admit the only reason it's my favorite is crass commercialism...

It's worth a decent lil wad of cash. Not an insane amount of cash, but big enough in my world. One of these days I gotta get around to converting it into that cash. It's in perfect condition. From a smoke free home. L@@K! Rare! Et cetera.

Gift for GROG.

I LOVE this shirt WAY too much. It's almost like there's blood on them flowers.. Coming from the Dark & Tiki Aficionado!

It is a size XL. But that's a 1964 XL. Still, if someone's lookin for a nice gift for GROG, PM me.

T

Favorite is a vintage Reyn Spooner, although it is too small for me now. I have a vintage tiki shirts on my facebook page. tikijim

C

My personal favorite from my husband Ben's collection is this beauty given to him by my Dad. yes, that is Gene Autry in the print. It is a Hang ten brand shirt and I am guessing from the '70's but I really don't know much about it except that I LOVE it.

Here's some of mine...I've got others that were packed away in our last move and are still in boxes, these also do not include various "Camp Shirts" which are the same cut but non-poly/tiki themes to their prints.

Mel's Diner/American Graffiti on a boomerang background

Classic rides on a bamboo background

Yeah, but cleans up well, with just a haircut.

I have a handful of shirts I own and like. I'm more of a Kustom Kulture Junkie, and seem to gravitate towards pinups and pinstripes...
The first one being a Lucky 13 button up shirt, and not sure, but it may have been a prototype. Someone can correct my memory on this shirt, if you own or seen others around.(I seem to remember buying on ebay as a prototype)

Thanks for the cool thread!(Even knowing Kate could have shown everyone's shirt in her own single thread!! ha, she had em all, man!)

LATEST UPDATE
Found out recently(03/28/11) that Lucky 13 only made 150 TOTAL of these shirts. They said approximately 30 XL were made, and only the medium sizes are test batched/prototyped samples. Lucky 13 told me I have a really rare piece from their spring 2001 catalog. That is the lowest "production" shirt I've ever owned, or known of. I'm stoked.

Are these still the ground rules ??

Just checkin'.

It is ATP's thread. :)

I thought I read that, but after seeing multiple posts since page 1 of the thread...My reply has been edited to follow the guidelines. :D

Love that design, I'm feeling inspired to create a Baining style shirt for myself :D

Rules, We don't need no stinking Rules!

This Headhunter shirt made in the 1960s by Sir Guy is still my favorite.

It sold for over $3600 on eBay in 2003, so no, I don't own it, unfortunately. But if anyone wants to reproduce the design on a rockabilly-style shirt, I'll surely buy one.

Wow! Sabu, that is a new one for me,never seen one like it!

Sabu,

Sweet shirt, put me down for knock-off order #2. Does Buzzy make shirts?

DC

Very cool shirt Sabu but I wouldn't pay $3600 for it (apparently you wouldn't either :D )

C

These are all great shirts.

I say that with a small tear in my eye as Mrs. Chippy cleaned out my closet and, alas, I no longer have my favorite Tiki Shirt.

Perhaps if I can find her a new dress she will let me get a new shirt? (Hmmmm)

But then where will I hide all the new mugs I just bought?

We are working on it. We had or first counseling session on Monday night.

This is one of my favorites. It is not as loud, but it still has complete strangers stopping me to ask where I got it (http://www.hawaiian-shirt.net, no longer available). It is a Dia de los Muertos shirt with skeletons in the Frida Kahalo style.

Ah...Springtime! Time to show us your new ones!

K

Here's a new addition to my "Spring Collection" I picked up yesterday at Goodwill. When I first saw it, I'm like "Why is there a ghost or spirit on an aloha shirt??" Then I took it all in & realized it's a Biblical scene with the verse John 21: 1-25 written in small print. (Jesus telling the disciples to throw their empty nets in the water & hundreds of fish were caught).
At any rate, I mean..how could I NOT get a Hawaiian shirt with "Jesus as Ghost"...? And as fate would have it, it was "green tag", so it was half off the usual $6.99 price.....Hallelu!

I think my favorite is Sully's Vader shirt. I don't have pictures of it though.
