I have got to get into the next Shrunken Head show........any idea how to do that? Soooooo, coool.

Keep your eye out for a full preview of the show this week.

C

Congowa,
you need to work up a video for that,
like you did for Jungle Doctor.

Jeff(btd)

LeeLoo can't wait for the full preview......

We'll even have a guillotine there
in case anyone wants to "volunteer" for the next Hunters and Collectors exhibition!

T

We'd like to have dinner before the art show, so does anyone have any recommendations...?

GROG recommend chicken. It low fat, low cholesterol, and taste good.

What is the joke that the Disneyland Jungle Cruise skippers say when then pass by Trader Sam?

Something like "one of yours for one of his"?

I meant recommendations for restaurants near the gallery. Thanks for nailing me on this one, Grog. You one smart caveman!

It's "Trader Sam is having a special today, two of his for one of yours".
Pretty close! (3 years of annual passes...god help me!)

Here are my contributions to the theme, only on Tiki Central :)

For some historic context (hopefully not to spoil your appetite) : The real thing

(or...is it?)

And some mid-century pop humor:

Art openings are customarily free, and this one seems to fit the custom.

DJ Switched On Audrey will spin an intoxicating blend of tunes.
Sino Tequila is concocting a special cocktail and the "Bacon Mania" gourmet food truck is providing tasty treats.

I got really stoned and watched Cannibal Holocaust for the 1st time while eating a big plate of spaghetti. An experience I'll never forget.

if you want dinner in the area go here. Even that greasy bleached haired douche on TV approves.

Thanks, Coco Joe!

Atomikitty has emerged from the deep dark jungles to post again on Tiki Central!

Really looking forward to the show tonight~ seeing some AMAZING art, listening to some GROOVY tunes, Imbibing in some lovely spirits, and most of all seeing all my Tiki Ohana. It's been WAY too long!

Here are a few teasers of my 'shrunken pieces' for the show:

T

Heres one of my pieces . Its one solid piece of wood handcarved, painted in acrylic and added hair . "Beetlejuice Revisited"

WOW! I know it's only April but I'm gonna go ahead and call this "The Show of the Year!"

Great show! Thank you to everyone involved.

last night we were gods!

Thanks Toe and the whole gaggle of folks who made this happen!
the place was PACKED!

That's an understatement!!!

I could not handle the crowd...! I plan on coming back on another night so I can actually check out the art! I know there was art there, just couldn't actually see it!

Fantastic show! Great work! Cold beers! Yummy bacon!

Oh, and I went home with the awesome B-Ben bar. Look for it at upcoming Tiki Events. I do believe we'll travel with it.

Great show! Lots of great, diverse art and many great pieces were priced very reasonably. I had to split early but it was great seeing a lot of familiar faces!

TS

Agreed, it was an incredible show!(I just wish it had a tadbit more elbowroom! I guess that's what happens when you cram in nearly 200 people inside a storefront gallery! I really enjoyed seeing alot of old familiar faces as well, and enjoyed the difibulator experience after ordering half of the menu off of the BaconMania truck! Thanks everyone who attended, it was definately a star studded event.(I just wish I'd have had enough money to buy everything, as the art was top notch and top shelf merch! Kudos to the Artists involved.

(oh and forgot to add, I was wondering if the "Toe 'ster" got his shoe seams bleached at the same place Kinny gets his ends/tips done?) :P
Haha, I don't care what they said about yer comfort shoes, Toe....At least you were business up top... :D

T

Thanks to Tom for letting me know that my shrunken Sock Monkey sold. Saweeet.

B

Thank Audrey. She closed the deal! She has a good lead on a buyer for ur Beetlejuice head.

T

Well then thank you Audrey . Too cool !

So can we post full images of the art NOW? I came away with this stellar piece:

"WITCH DOCTOR PUPPET MASTER"

A striking homage to Jim Flora by Derek Yaniger. I fell in love with it and did not hesitate.

This is me giving EVERYONE a big hug for the opening night. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

I got there around 9:45 pm,
had to go to Dinner for my Mom's b-day 1st.
but it was still pretty packed when I got there.
The Bacon truck out front helped to split up the crowd.

the only thing I was bummed about was.
By the time I got there, some of the art had sold, and was taken off the wall.
I thought that art stays on the wall till the show is over?
tells ya what I know about art shows.

Jeff(btd)

the early birds got the worms!
too bad you missed mp's piece....
it was OUTTASIGHT!

here's my imitation of Jeff BTD

the only thing I was bummed about was....

you should really just be happy with being able to see the numerous paintings that were up there...
blame your momma...
she kept you at dinner...

Jeff(btd)

Sorry about that Jeff. We do appreciate you coming out, even late.

Its true that at traditional gallery art shows, the art does stay on the wall for the run of the show.

But this is an art co-op show, so the rules are more flexible.

We felt that since it's a non-permanent space, and only open 3 days a week at funky hours, we werent sure if anyone would come out after opening night.
So when the show officially ended at 10, we let folks take their art that night...which they loved.

We will post the whole show on a facebook page, so you can see what was spirited away.
And for the next show, you will know how we roll and show up on time, dammit! :D

You're a good boy, Jeff! Mom comes first!

Here's a link to the FaceBook page of the Hunters and Collectors exhibition ARTWORK!
Don't be shy-get over there and LOOK!

Thanks Kenny,

I guess I saw most of them,
but there was a few things that had gone allready.
so I saw them in the facebook page.

Jeff(btd)

Due to technical difficulties, we were unable to load a complete preview of the show. So how 'bout a post-view?
