Sorry Pineappleman...

Keanu Reeves is NOT Tiki.

And the Shadows are not Surf (like the Ventures, close but no cigar) and thus NOT Tiki.

:D

I decided to add movie reviews of Surf Movies/ South Seas movies to my blog....
Point Break is a surf movie..(whether it features the horrible acting of Keanu or not)

And I never said Tiki song of the week. Just song of the week. One week it may be Surf....One week Hawaiian---one week Exotica or I personally like a lot of Instrumental music as opposed to the Beach Boys type stuff.....
It worked for me....(whether surf or not).....

Even my Running Tiki is more just Beach Living....Although I'm searching for Tiki on my Runs...I'm not always going to find Tiki but it is more about Embracing the Beach ...

P.S. I love the Ventures........

Coming soon Running Tiki: Sunset Beach PCH Beachside run.....(Running with Bees)

[ Edited by: Pineappleman11 2011-06-25 09:32 ]

Are you thinking of a 10K Tiki run?

If it ends at the Pike, maybe you can have the Mai Tai bar to sponsor?

Great Idea...(I don't want be the one to organize it though)
Mai Tai Bar would be a fun relaxing place for the after run party cool down.

I tried to get a bunch of old friends to recreate old Jr Lifeguard Stud Ironman back in Sept 2010....
But couldn't get more than a couple of friends to turn out....and I was the only one that did it...
4 Mile in the soft sand and 2 mile swim......From where beach starts to where it ends.....

I got a few friends to run 72nd on Pennisula to where beach starts downtown and back which is 8 miles round trip....Nice run along the beach.

I think 72nd to Mai Tai bar would be about 4 1/2 miles

Updates include

Running Tiki Sunset Beach (Running with Bees

Pineappleman, I like your taste in music but dude some of your recent Tiki snaps have been horrifying (especially that last one).

Take heed in Hanford's mission statement:

"What Tiki Central Isn't...

  • It’s not modern plastic, brightly-colored tiki party decorations
  • It’s not about the Caribbean/Key west design aesthetic
  • It's not about simply anything that has a tiki on it or in it."

:)

That is part of the freedom of having my own Tiki blog.

Thanks for the feedback

I'm not making judgement on what is or isn't someone else's idea of what Tiki is or isn't.
There are many things that different people will argue over and discuss whether they fall under their definition of what is and what isn't Tiki. So my blog may at times disappoint and yet again there may be someone out there that sees something
they like that isn't approved Tiki to add to their collection. One man's crap is another man's treause like at a garage sale.

I'm just posting what I come across without making judgements on it ---in my own blog. Some people will like it.
Some people will not,,,,, The Family luau that I went to for example was a BUST compare to the expectations that I had for it being a more traditional Luau and Luau entertainment.... Old ladies from Seizure World doing Hula isn't my good idea of a Luau isn't what I wanted to see......But that was what was there.. I reported on it and the K-mart looking ad type Tikis and Caribbean whatever that was there. I'm just doing a blog that interests me in particular and may or may not interest other people. I thought it was kind of funny going there expecting one thing and ending up with what was there...

Who decided that Burlesque or half a dozen other things are Tiki or Not? I don't think Burlesque is Tiki? but it is a major part of Oasis......(Not that I'm complaining mind you---kudos to it making its way into TIKI)

My blog is just fun for me to share Tiki in all its approved or non approved forms in a blog.......Which I took advise to only now occassionally posts links to. I happen to like Surf music (mainly instrumental surf---that is why I first went to Oasis a couple of years ago)....I like the Southern California Lifestyle of living near the beach and being active and enjoying the beach community .......So my blog reflects that as well.......I also love Hawaii and Hawaiian stuff since I got married over there and have continued to embrace Hawaiian things....I guess just look at my blog as a celebration if things TIKI and (non-approved Tiki) --Some Surf --some Hawaiian---some Beach Lifestyle in General.

Think of the name the Pineappleman's Tiki blog as just that ....A name ....and not a statement of what is Tiki.....

What we have here again is the basic difference between appreciating Tiki style as an ART FORM and appreciating Tiki as a PARTY LIFESTYLE. As the Tiki revival turns older than ten years, the original sources for it are more and more forgotten, and the latter is beginning to take over the former. It's a matter of perspective of what you see and seek in Tiki:

If you CARE for the art form, you will delve into it deeply, and endeavor to keep it special, perpetuating its unique features in both traditional and innovative ways. Caring also means seeking to maintain a certain level of quality in what you care for. That certainly does NOT EXCLUDE having a good time with it all and partying and drinking, it just means doing all that in a more mindful manner.

If it's all one big beach party to you, there are all kind of fun genres you can throw it together with, then splash some bright colors on it for good measure, and, as the saying goes, "It's all good!" :)

It is sort of the difference between a 1934 ZOMBIE and a SEX ON THE BEACH.

It's everybody's personal choice, I say. This site however, as John-O pointed out, has certain parameters that aim at keeping a certain level of quality in its content. Mindless Tiki stuff like that Party City Tiki is undermining that level of quality.

I'm sorry that my Blog is not living up to standards......It is meant to be fun.
And like an album that you like on CD.....If there are parts of it you like --you listen to that part of the album....and after awhile the songs you don't like you skip---by pressing the skip button.

H

And if the CD is especially disappointing you can always hit the eject button.

Battle lost......I hope some people are enjoying the blogs.

To lighten the mood I'll throw in a silly Tiki Poem I once wrote .

I envision as like a children's song gone terrible wrong…..Captain Stumpy host of a local nautical themed Children's show breaks out his guitar for a group of children sitting around him and bursts into a little song.. So imagine a bunch of kids sitting around listening to the crusty old Sea Captain singing.. (Visualize it people)

Leaky Tiki
"Hey kids –Here is a song about my Tiki"

I've got a Leaky Tiki
He Drips all day long
I can't Tell where the water comes from
But it drips right off the end of his slong

I've got a leaky Tiki
His Leak is very plain to see
It looks like he has a bladder problem
And constantly needs to pee

I've got a Leaky Tiki
He makes a great conversation Piece
The women all stare in wonderment
At his constant sustained release

I've got a Leaky Tiki
Come on children sing along with me
I've got a leaky Tiki
I Really think there is something wrong with me

I've got a Leaky Tiki
Its truly something I shouldn't tell
If I pulled it out and showed you
I certainly would end up in hell

BAC 08/12/2008
(Of course by the end of the song he would be tackled by the producers)

That's really charming. And this is who is reciting that poem, I take it?:

Look, P.M., apparently you don't want to understand, or you are having fun trolling, either way: I know several good, knowledgeable Tiki people that have been into Tiki a lot longer than you that because of posts like yours are believing that the quality of Tiki Central is going down the drain, and are giving up on it. The reason that so very few are speaking up is that many have already resigned to that. This is a sad fact, and I am not happy about it. I don't want that to happen any further, this is a great site. So please go and enjoy the freedom of your blog by yourself, instead of continuing to litter this site with sub-standard party Tiki stuff.

or he can post it in the Chalupa Forum?

MR

Gotta go with BigBro here. Nothing personal, I just wanted to state that I agree with him and the current state of affairs around here.
