Celebrities and Cocktails

Pages: 1 20 replies

Let’s try this - Classic celebrities with drinks, preferably cocktails or spirits, champagne will be ok but

• No Beer or Wine.
• No scenes from movies or television.
• Pre-1980
• Group pictures are the best.
• Take it easy on the repeat celebrities

Ernest Hemingway

Clark Gable, Van Heflin, Gary Cooper and Jimmy Stewart

Sean Connery

Dean Martin and John Wayne. (This only counts as John Wayne)

Frank Sinatra

J

Cheeta of the 1930's Tarzan films (at age 80).

He outlived both Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O’Sullivan !!

J

"Blonde Venus" Marlene Dietrich..

I was hoping that we would get the "what they were drinking"
with the pic.
;-(

Jeff(btd)

J

Sofia Loren and Jayne Mansfield...

Kingsley Amis and Elizabeth Jane Howard

Kurt Vonnegut

Brian Jones and Keith Richards.

Fabulous and looks like some of their cups are running over!!!

I’ve always been a big fan of those 1960s British Shakespearean actors who could drink more in one sitting than I do in an entire year. I hope their livers were left to science.

Peter O'toole

Richard Harris

and the king, Richard Burton

From the Life magazine archives hosted on Google:

Actor W. C. Fields taking a break from his exercise regimen with a drink...

Then, continuing his jogging along with actress Maria Montez and his trainer Bob Howard...

Howard Hughes...

-Tom

Cary Grant and Randolph Scott at their shared beach house in Santa Monica...

And this seems somewhat pertinent to this thread, given the celebrity scale (note the relatively high manliness of dark rum on this scale)...

Those flute glasses are tough. What's in them?… champagne, white wine, beer, maybe even water.

Also most of the pictures taken of celebrities were at Hollywood events where everyone was drinking champagne. That's almost too easy. Maybe we should exclude them to make this a more challenging thread. :-?

Anyway here's a couple more...

Gloria Swanson. I think this photo best embodies the spirit of this thread (or should we be avoiding formal publicity shots ??)...

Shirley Temple (drinking a Pina Colada !! At least it looks to be, we can't see the glass stem.)

She saved Fox studios from financial ruin during the 1930's and thus could do anything she wanted. :)

Steve McQueen

Elvis at the Moulin Rouge club in Los Angeles, March 11, 1958

Marilyn Monroe

Dick Nixon... He was one U.S. President who liked his booze. :)

And is possibly the only standing President to have been documented at a Tiki bar. Here he is at the Washington D.C. Trader Vics's in 1973 (Thanks to TC's ikitnrev, aka Vern, for the photo)...

Mamie Van Doren
Ray Anthony

Jimmy Page

[->>King Bushwich 33rd on Hulu.com

two of my most admired at a cocktail party given for Walter Matthau-Life Magizine 1966

I may be pushing it a bit with this pic, but it's cool.
Vera Ellen 50s actress...
