Have been traveling alot the last several months and it's been quite awhile since I have posted .Thought this was worthy of a mention.Vintage travel bag that looks to be original NOS not reproduction.I can't take credit for the find , it was passed over by another fellow well known tiki enthusist .Prestine mint condition inside and out.Does not appear to be ever used .

Sure glad I'm retired. I was able to go a yard sale this morning and found a couple of rare mugs. The Moatu decanter set by Shag and a mug made by schoontiki. It is a limited edition of 50 made in 2001. I liked the dream of Tiki as well. There were no markings on the yellow one, probably a home made.

DARK BROWN ROW-BOAT BOOKSHELF...NICELY FINISHED PIECE OF FURNITURE.
I happened to have traveled far from home yesterday, and found myself at a Home Goods store in Simi Valley.
They had a dark finish row-boat bookshelf, that was VERY cool! They only had one, and it wouldn't have fit in my car. If anyone is looking for something like that, check it out. I didn't think to take a picture. I'll remember the next time that I find a "find."

After a quick check o' the timepiece, I see that I have 5 minutes to spare for a quick run through.
Paid the sticker price for the big two and the nice lady threw in the lil' guy in the middle as a freebie.

The middle one has 'Tonga' carved on the back, the little one is curious but a quick google suggests Tongan too (unless someone can tell me better?).

This week's stuff

I got a big boy phone now so I downloaded a walking app. Clocked myself at the swapmeet while tiki hunting this weekend, and I did 2 miles on Saturday, and 4 miles on Sunday. I would have done more on Sunday, but I wore pants that morning and called it a day early due to heat.

These are from two weeks ago, all from the same person. This guy's parents sold everything, bought a yacht, and sailed around the world in the 60's and 70's.










The shell lamp is missing the base, but still a beautiful piece. The other shell is from Tahiti, but they didn't know where this one was from. Any ideas?

I love those type of lamps and they seem pretty rare to stumble across.

TikiRootsRocka, if there is a hole in the shell where the base was conected you can try to insert a mini strand of battery powered LED lights. I used a multi-colored strand with 20 lights like that for a conch shell that I have. You can find them in the big box stores around Christmas or online.

These were probably made in the area of the Philippines around the early 60s. Other than the info referenced earlier in this thread: http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=45707&forum=5, that's bound to be the best answer you're going to get.

We went to Tiki Kon, we went home down the Oregon and California coast and went tiki hunting.
Here's the treasure of our lifetime.
I spot a marquises tiki and run to see it. I saw the price was $500. Upon reading this we understood why it was so high. Even though it was 57 years or more old it was in perfect condition.

While we waited the store called Mr. Williams who was born in 1913 and had just had his 100th birthday. He consented to sell the tiki for $400 and Dan paid the store. We wished they would let us talk to him but they said no.

Mr. Elmo Williams has directed movies that we have all seen and loved.

Here are a few posters from his movies such as Tora Tora Tora, The Poseiden Adventour and 20,000 Leagues under the sea.

He is the man on the left with his wife. He did Zorba the Greek with Anthony Quinn.

We found two Kava men from Easter Island. The larger one is super heavy plastic, maybe bakalite? Have any of you seen this one before?

We were in an antique shop when a woman entered and went to the desk to sell this woman. When she was finished we went to the desk and bought her from the owner of the shop. Nothing on the bottom so we can only guess the age, we think 1940's, what do you think?

The Kimitete family is renowned as carvers, I think based off the age of yours it was likely carved by Joseph Kimitete, look at the information in the top link in my post (Kai Ehitu History).

bongofury Dan has a whole bunch of VHS tape that he's going to go through to see if he recorded the movie they made from the TV pilot. I tried Amazon today but they didn't have it.

I have no idea if its 'tiki' or just 'ethnic' but thought it was interesting. It is about 35" tall (but the bottom 2" appears to be a base that was added later). It was pretty scratched up, I've done some sanding & re-staining (& might do some more).

Any idea where it is from?

Im pleased with this one, its a re-painting of an earlier painting (the 2 artists names are on there). The ship is called Thermopylae

From my notes it appears that the movie "Hell Ship Mutiny" (1957) was compiled from the Knight of the South Pacific (1955) TV pilot. The movie is just over an hour long so I am not sure how long the pilot was.

Now back to Tiki finds.....

While I'm sure neither of these guys are worth anything, monetarily speaking, considering they're some of the first additions to my mug collection (not to mention the fact they only set me back $3 each), I consider them pretty good antique mall finds.

I did, however, pass on this guy (for now), since he had a few bumps and bruises. Should I grab him for the $29 they were asking? He's not wood; rather, some kind of thinner, easily chipped material...kind of like foam.

Bali Hai (Lynnfield) "crossed arm" tiki mug; homecraft two-sided mug with swank pearlescent glaze. This one has a price sticker from a Hawaiian gift shop (I have a similar one in brown from a Canadian shop); unmarked OMC moai.

When we look at this thread we know that it is not possible to own one of every tiki out there. It sure is fun to try! So many great finds. Wendy

Here are some more tiki finds from our Tiki Kon, Portland trip.

Dan knew he had one of these bottles at home but for $10 he couldn't pass it up. Good that he didn't because the one at home was 1984 and a different sculpt from this find of 1984. Lots of subtle differences such as the head looking down.
