Came out with two Kahika moai mugs. This is in Austin, TX mind you. Nothing else tiki or Ohio related in the house. Probably not of interest to many here, but they also had a plethora of Alex Chilton/Big Star/Boxtops records that didn't at all suit the mostly 70s electric blues record collection. Weird sale. Happy me. The one on the right must be from an earlier mold. Much better detail.

I didn't realize there were ceramic versions. I'm not a big bourbon fan, so I've only had a Port Light at Vic's once, and it came in the glass version. My barback doesn't have an inch of room left, and my mug shelves aren't tall enough to accommodate it, so I had to put the decanter on a bench where I normally keep my tiki carvings. Unfortunately, the black side kind of disappears in the low-light, so I'll have to come up with some way to illuminate it.

But I have that box too, and I love the Polynesian Pop poetry of the text in the lid…I tried to quote it in my Beachcomber chapter, but did not have enough space. And remember! : "The hand-blown glass float, placed gem-like in the Kontiki lid, is an authentic artfact and maybe hundred of years old. No one really knows…" Oooooh! :lol:
