Lynn is a real nice lady & was upset to hear some folks had any issues with her
some people who previously asked for refunds, but could not provide the correct info
under which they originally donated, Lynn refunded out of her own pocket, so they would get that money back.

Please note that if you donated thru Paypal or WePay, Paypal etc. may take out a $1.50 Transaction fee
for the refund & Lynn has no control of that FYI.

I was thinking about it last night, that although we all can now consider Rufus as being long gone to the big aquarium in the sky, whatever happened to the old Bahooka? Did it ever re-open as a new restaurant? Or is it now a parking lot? Or condominiums?

Grand opening of the new place was Tuesday. It's called the Moonlight Restaurant now. Pics and reviews on Yelp here, but please don't look at shots of the interior before you eat dinner or else you may ruin your appetite. What a shame.

I just checked the Yelp page and reviews for the new restaurant. It looks like the owners and their friends posted a bunch of 5-star reviews of the restaurant. Then some others followed up with a bunch of 1-star reviews to help make the Yelp ratings less phony.

The whole situation is just plain sad. The building went from being noteworthy and unique to becoming just another common Asian restaurant in a city which is full of average and common Asian restaurants.

Their Yelp rating came down from 5 "faked" stars to just 2.5 stars in the past 12 hours. This is due to tiki fans writing reviews and voicing feelings and opinions on their Yelp page. It's worth a read, there's some funny stuff there. Don't miss reading the "fake" reviews from the owner's buddies.

I posted that link to the Tiki Oasis page on Facebook and that's why a bunch of people left all those reviews. It will be interesting to see how long they stay in business for.

Do we know that the person running this restaurant is even the same guy who tossed Rufus in the pond? Trashing the place on Yelp when you have never been there is seems wrong in my opinion. We're all unhappy and ticked off with what happened to the Bahooka and the ignorant and cruel treatment Rufus got but trashing a new restaurant when you've never been there based on a restaurant the former owner sold seems unfair.

Michael Tsao passed away shortly after the Kahiki was tore down.
And there were other weird things that happened after this time as well.
Some said it was a curse.

Could be a Karma thing.

I won't carry on very much for fear of the drama that unfolded over a year ago when I created the thread on Rufus. However, will say this. Yes, the new place .."Moonlight...something" has opened where Bahooka once was. I received a good deal of e-mail from people who were posting on yelp the last week or so letting me know. I also saw almost ALL the posts removed by yelp that expressed anything to do with negative. One person told me they said Yelp said, "the info was second hand...so not valid", regarding the restaurants owner. I saw someone on yelp pulling the "racist card" as to the comments too, though I saw no comments chastising a race..they were focussed on the frustration of the back story on this place..Rufus included, and the way the current owner (yes it's the same guy as far as I have heard) of the former Bahooka purchase handled everything.

I have had to let all this go TC...as hard as I personally fought to see that Rufus found a new home. This restaurant may very well be a great Chinese bar and restaurant now. I love Chinese food..and some of my dearest friends are Chinese...so let's get the race issue out of the deck! I got involved at one point ONLY because I felt there was a mascot to our Tiki community and those growing up here in the area near Bahooka that just freaking vanished, after a HUGE attempt and outcry to negotiate a solution to getting him a safe home, peacefully. In the end, the owner took the fish, "Rufus" a 37 year old Paku that had a personality and spirit many embraced in the Tiki community and San Gabriel Valley and placed the fish...nowhere that he could show was to its good favor. No closure for a lot of concerned people. Not good! There is NO QUESTION why this was so hard to take for anyone who loves animals as pets, a Tiki icon, or a living element of history for Tiki in Southern California. So, Enough said. My hope is that if the new owner has Rufus in some hidden tank with a big gold castle in the sand, that his new business flourish! The joke is on us! If , however this man disposed of Rufus, and truly did totally disrespect this community and the welfare of this animal, that fate takes it's course! No threats...no need!. I hope people here that are tempted to make a joke out of this, pass on the remarks as well or write me personally and I am Happy to elaborate. But, Really...If you are on this site...and really do embrace the spirit and places that have made"Tiki" what we "feel" today...and especially if you understand what the Bahooka was to locals here, and what that fish that damn fish that frolicked near the front desk represented...you will understand why all this "drama" was fueled, Let's hope for the best...and whatever floats to the surface be fate..and NOT be a familiar Paku! ~~Aloha

There is so much douchebaggery on Yelp around this restaurant.

I still don't know how the family could just turn their back on Rufus and leave him with those new owners. It seems heartless to me.

I did want to add that I do live in Columbus Ohio as do many tiki nutz.
But that review was not from me I do not do Facebook or any other social media type
stuff other than TC.
Do you need a Facebook acc to post on those, lots of times you do.

BUT if I was able to post on this yelp thing I would not post a fake review just to

This is part of the bad that the internet has become, these fake likes and dislikes

But for the most part you can read between the lines and get a good idea

I wasn't taking issue with his hometown of Columbus, but the fact that he made his comment as if he dined there twice weekly on a regular basis when the place was barely open for a week. And he left a 5-star rating. I know from others here that there is quite a tiki community in and around Columbus.

The internet has its share of trolls and scoundrels, and also arbitrarily-run and vaguely-managed public sites who are in it more for the buck than for the zen of it all. That will never change.

This whole thing with the restaurant brought the worst out in a lot of people. While Rufus' true fate may never become known to us, it is a fact that the Bahooka was fairly and squarely sold. Whatever the new owners did with the building was theirs to decide. How they did it, and how they handled the animal life, is another story entirely, and probably even they would agree that it poorly handled. (I am shocked that animal rights activists didn't make a bigger deal about it.) The new owners had balls encouraging the posting of fake 5-star reviews on Yelp, and they in turn drew fire from others who otherwise may not have been so irked and would otherwise have left them in peace.
