I am way excited...Bill Collins got some coconut palms that had been cut down from the Coco Palms. I am going to get a slice of one from him and frame it along with an old hotel brochure. Will take a picture when I get it all together. |

Old news already, but this is about the worst that could happen, and it's no surprise it did with no relevant security on the grounds http://khon2.com/2014/07/04/fire-damages-historic-coco-palms-resort/ |

Yup, the big shell burnt up, along with the archway it's in and the whole second floor of that restaurant wing, AND the iconic lobby right behind it. :( |

Once again, looking on the bright side of what happened, the new owners/developers have the opportunity to rebuild grander, newer, and better than ever. Since "gone" is "gone forever," and we will forever miss the vintage things, the only option now is to build new restaurant and lobby in that spot without previous restrictions. There may be a more grand resurrection of this resort coming than what we previously hoped for. I'm optimistic. Now if they would only re-build the Pan-Pacific Auditorium in Los Angeles which was also lost to fire. But that's a different subject altogether for the pages of the "Streamline Moderne Central" web site, ha... |

20CM - glad you liked the info, I think of the place fairly regularly. I agree - a group of TC'ers should meet up there after it re-opens. My guess is, still, that when they rebuild it there will not only be improvements, but also a number of the original features returning. Guessing once again, mostly the landscaping features. Given the beautiful look and feel (and the success) of other resorts on the islands, I'm confident we will be pleased with the outcome. I'd like to see the gardens and canals cleaned up and restored to their former glory so that we can take a group picture on one of the boats and post it here! We'll have to look into renting a banquet room for an evening and have a room party with TC'ers mixing and serving. It's coming.... |
