Found this dancing hula girl at the thrift store yesterday. Not the type of thing i actually look for but it was in a spot i couldn't help but see it so i grabbed it. Cost me $6.25 and is approx 23" tall and 11" wide. Slight mark on her grass skirt and a tiny bit of damage to one corner on the back of the frame but it's in pretty good condition otherwise for its age. I'm thinking it's from the 70's.

They are the same S&P shakers i found and posted about the other day hang10. Nice find.

Today i found another Maori outrigger canoe. The general consensus is that once you have three of something you therefore have started a 'collection'. I do collect tiki mugs and various other tiki items/objects, but it now appears i am collecting Maori outrigger canoes.
This guy is smaller than the first two with different detail. So strange to find three different ones within the last two months, having never ever seen one before.

Today's find and some close up shots.

Catching up a little here... these are December and January's finds. A set of six pearl diver glasses, various orchids of hawaii mugs, trader vics coconut mug, including some generic ones, Dynasty Wholesale bowl, Treasure Craft palm tree, and an interesting bamboo styled boat marked United China and Glass Company. Based on some internet searches, Ucagco, was sole to Sammons Enterprises in 1956.

These generic coconut mugs are pretty rough and are unmarked. They couldn't have lasted too long in a restaurant setting, the color comes off when washed!

I haven't found another one anywhere online....so far.

ErichTroudt you found gold! It's so hard to find his tiki related art. We have one Pipe with a tiki that has the same bottom as yours. Most of our other S.B. piece could be tiki or totem pole. We just bought them if they didn't have any wings. These are very old and we have never seen yours before. Congratulations, Wendy

E Image Missing: https://www.gravatar.com/avatar/c29c190efcf395f7f517ffc1a3ae1d0c?d=blank&s=192&fit=fill

Thanks Wendy.

I would love to see a pic of the pipe.

The only other "hawaii inspired" piece I could find online was an ashtray (which was pretty cool).

I've seen his candle holder piece like they used at Aloha Jhoes and his native-american-northwest indian-alaskan pieces before, but this one was new to me.

last weekend's schwag...

trader vics fogcutter, some benihana mugs, a lighthouse shaped jar from red lobster that might make a cool lamp, and some generic, treasure craft-like ku mugs.

and the real score, some enchanted tiki room masks! not sure if these are authentic disney gift shop items, they are marked 'made in japan' on the back, but don't have any other markings. they are made of a white pottery or plaster and painted black on the back. I couldn't find anything about them in my searches of tiki central or google. anyone know anything about these? are they disney items or knock offs?

Burial Caskets---in 1960 scientists carefully opened the caskets of
Liloa and Lonoikamakahiki and found human bones and the following:
A set of pieces from a bracelet; a malo of woven cloth, the material unknown;
an iron stick with a wooden handle; human teeth with holes bored in them;
pieces of tapa.
Bis Mus Neg No. 29039

Burial Caskets---The unique sennit caskets shown were said to contain
bones of Liloa and Lonoikamakahiki. In 1858 the two caskets,
along with the bones of the 23 chiefs were transferred to a mausoleum
on the Palace grounds in Honolulu then later to the new mausoleum
built in Nuuanu in about 1885. Finally in 1918 the two caskets were
placed in the Bishop Museum where scientific care could be used
to preserve them.

I saw this tiki statue on Craigslist this past Friday. It was listed as made from an oak trunk. I called the guy and he said it was purchased from a carver in the Santa Monica mountains about five years ago. He said it has been outdoors for the past two years and is very weathered. I immediately made plans to pick it up.

I was going to sand it down but I decided to use a solution I use to clean up my bamboo. (1/4 bleach to 3/4 water). I used very fine sandpaper and then a clear coat. The Tiki is very heavy and will be stored out of direct sunlight.
