Aloha Tiki Central!

It's good to be back with you after a little hiatus. I have been busy with Tiki over the past year and a half, creating a blog and a podcast during this time. I hope you'll take the time to check them both out.

My blog is hosted by Wordpress and is up over 50 posts now. I'm currently in the midst of a series on my Tiki ohana, and previously blogged live from The Hukilau 2014 and WDW's Polynesian Village Resort. Please check it out here:
http://apandatikiblog.wordpress.com

My podcast is hosted by Podbean and currently has 4 60-minute episodes. My latest podcast featured an interview with Jeff Beachbum Berry live from his new restaurant and Tiki bar in New Orleans, Latitude 29. Please check it out here:
http://apandatikipod.podbean.com

You can also check out my Facebook page for more good Tiki times. Mahalo!

Just a question: Are you using Shag's artwork with his permission?

APTL

I don't do these compilations for commercial gain; I just make them for my personal use. Having said that, I've never asked SHAG for his permission to use his art. However, I have given him several of these CDs when I've seen him, and he seems to enjoy them. He's never said anything negative to me about using his art for the CD covers.

Aloha, Panda! I use a couple of custom music mixes in my bar, and you reminded me that it is a nightmare to license individual tracks and publish compilations so they can be put up for sale. But you might consider posting some track lists here so we can get a better feel for what you've made, and it would serve as a guide to myself and others who read your posts. Reading your post for your most recent surf compilation made me really wish I could check it out in some way. Your track lists might be a very cool addition to your blog. Music is an important element to any bar, lounge, cave, etc.

You may also consider starting a couple of web radio stations -- one for tiki, one for surf -- unless you already have too many interests and hobbies. I don't know how the licensing would work, but it's something my little brain just thought of. Could be great fun.

Cheers!

APTL

Thanks, Ace Explorer, great tips. I did end my last blog post with an image of the CD's inside cover, which has the track listing. I've also tried to play as much music from these compilations as possible in my podcasts. I did fool around a bit with Spotify to try to publish these compilations as playlists, but I didn't get very far. Spotify was giving me trouble with the many tracks I have that aren't in their database, so I lost patience with it. I guess I only have so much time and energy to devote to my Tiki pursuits, and I prioritize it this way: 1. Facebook page; 2. Wordpress blog; 3. Podbean podcast. I do really enjoy making my music compilations. I just haven't found a painless way to share them with the Tiki ohana. I'll keep workin on this!

APTL

Big news! Thanks to a little push from Ace Explorer, I've figured out a simple way to share my music playlists with the Tiki ohana. I've now ported my 2 latest playlists to 8tracks. You can either find them directly on the 8tracks app/website, or you can go back to my blog posts, where I've embedded the links at the bottom of each post, under the inside cover art/playlist. So far, you can listen to A. Panda's Space-Age Bachelor Pad and Panda's Aloha Surf. I hope you enjoy listening and please tell me what you think. Mahalo!

Nice job, it's addictive... Now my dilemma is whether I use available space for another mug, or for another bottle of booze. I'm much more selective about mug buying now, but still haven't controlled the impulse buying yet. Have fun with it!

I'm ALMOST there... Our modest amount of space is declining fast, and I'm getting to the point where I might want to offload those early Accoutrements purchases, excess Trader Sam's mugs, and that sort of thing. I'm for sure waiting on my friends who always go to WDW to bring me back a Nautilus, and that'll fill it up.

Anyways, great blog A. Panda! I LOVE that bamboo Tiffany-style lamp too! I like Tiki style, but I LOVE Victorian-Edwardian.

A very nice write-up, thank you for sharing it here. I haven't seen Moana yet, but my wife has already asked to go see it, and a friend of mine who started his Aulani vacation yesterday also nudged me to see it. I also do the DVD / Blu-Ray thing at home mostly, and I agree that this really seems like it should be seen in a nice theater.

I am a certified sailing and navigation instructor for the American Sailing Association, and from your write-up, know that a lot of the content in Moana will resonate with me personally.
