Yeah, that happened to me too. Don't resist, just go for it and have fun. Gin is a good little sidebar to your rum interests. |

I've belatedly come to realize I am too lazy to make most Tiki cocktails. They involve more fuss and effort than I want to put into a cocktail. And, despite buying every syrup and liqueur that I can get my hands on, I always seem to be missing that one key ingredient. The above said...I've been enjoying this rum old fashioned: 1 dash Bittercube Jamaican #1 bitters (careful with this bitters, a little goes a long way) Combine with ice, stir, and pour into your favorite lowball glass. Garnish with a lime twist. |

I enjoy making Tiki and classic vintage drinks almost as much as I like drinking em. This evening at my brother TikiVato’s Fugu Cove home bar I served up Mai Tai’s and Saturn’s. |

First, a Cobra's Fang. Then, a Volcano (Intoxica Recipe) with some homemade crab rangoon and ribs. They had heaps of nice "cocktail grapefruits" at the store when I went ingredient shopping and I decided I needed a drink that was heavy on the grapefruit. |

I should ALWAYS be prepared to answer that question. But this time, I forgot to photo the menu showing the ingredients. Sorry. All I can say for sure is some kind of unidentified rum and blue curacao, and I have no idea of the rest of the ingredients, so I know that's no real help whatsoever. But the next time I go I'll get the answer. |

And such a delicious drink too! Edit-- The biggest time cost with a Corn and Oil is that my wife likes to make her own falernum. So, while we have her falernum, it is a 30 second-to-make cocktail. But, when the falernum runs out, it's a multi-day endeavor. But well worth it. [ Edited by: Scott McGerik 2018-02-26 17:24 ] |

If I remember correctly from my last visit, it's their house rum blend, the curacao, coconut liqueur, lime and pineapple. I recall my bartender saying she prefers hers with a smidge more lime than their recipe actually calls for. |

A Sazerac. About four years ago, my wife and I were visiting friends in Portland, OR. We joined our friends at a trendy bar in downtown Portland. It was in one of the taller buildings in Portland, so it had a good view of the Willamette River and the many bridges over it. At that time, I was enamored with NOLA and, therefore, Sazeracs. I ordered a Sazerac from the bowtie-festooned bartender. A few minutes later, the bartender informed me they had no Sazerac rye whiskey and, therefore, could not make a Sazerac. I dutifully and sanctimoniously, informed the bartender that Old Overholt was a sufficient rye whiskey. A few minutes later, he returned to tell me they had neither Old Overholt nor any rye whiskey, And neither did they have Peychaud bitters. Or had they ever heard of absinthe. What ever they served me that night was not a Sazerac. It didn't have rye whiskey, nor did it have absinthe nor Peychauds. I'm certain it had booze in it. That is about all it had in common with a Sazerac. Tonight, I drink a Sazerac in honor of that night! |

Rum Babalu’s and Mai Tai’s at Tommy Bahama’s. Bought a book on making Shrubs today. Can’t wait to try my hand at some blackberry shrub. Both the cooked and “cold” method seem easy enough. We’ll see. |

It’s called the Pan Am Experience. You can look it up online and see photos and videos. They do it every few months. Incredible fun. It’s in Pacoima. Dinner, drinks and fun crew and experience. A bit pricey, but worth it if you’re into mid century and vintage Pan Am. Authentic 747 inside a warehouse. You buy a seat, served drinks and dinner as you would on a Pan Am first class seat in the 1970’s,, by a flight crew in vintage styled Pan Am uniforms. |
