Mahalo Nui Loa - thanks, Bam Bam! For those who missed it - I recently celebrated my 150th radio broadcast, dedicating the first hour to Mid Century Exotica: http://pbsfm.org.au/node/73639 Then last Friday, I played a rare private pressing recorded by Bing Crosby for Trader Vic ... and was joined in the studio by Noelani from Melbourne's Nuholani Polynesian dance community - to chat about Hawaiian hula, music and culture. |

Haven’t been able to listen live recently, so I’ve been catching up. I really enjoyed the Esquivel show, and Bing’s song for Trader Vic highlighted last week was a real treat. Also, I love Bert Kaempfert’s entire “A Swinging Safari” album, so I was excited to hear “Market Day.” Congrats on 150 shows! |

This week's programme started with some dark jungle voodoo, before celebrating Les Baxter's birthday, picking up the pace with an "incredible" new crime suite, then an interview with the mid-century tiki artist Derek Yaniger. There's always plenty of action in the Ports of Paradise and the last few weeks have been no exception :o :o :o If you missed any of the broadcasts, you can stream up to 6 months worth of programs from our Audio Archive: http://pbsfm.org.au/portsofparadise In additional to an eclectic array of midcentury classics, you might be interested in the following: 30 March >> Interview with tiki trailblazers Jumpin' Josh Collins and Barbara Blaze, who are hosting a series of wild tropical rooftop parties here in Melbourne. 20 April >> Interview with sonic explorer Mike Cooper, who has been creating ambient electronic exotica over the last 15 years - using looped exotica samples, bird calls and Hawaiian steel guitar. |

Giving a bump to remind everyone that Paddy is still going strong every week with Ports of Paradise! I'm not sure if he's aware yet that TC is back online, I should give him a heads up. |
