A great weekend was had here in KC as we celebrated the first anniversary at Tikicat. Lots of the Californiacs were in attendance and it was fantastic to have them here. Three great new mugs were released and the local MoKANtiki group that were present received an amazing TIKICAT logo pendant created for us by Odd Rodney. Big Big thanks to Mark Sellers and all of the staff who pulled it off. Folks, there is a reason to visit Kansas City, Missouri and it is our pride and joy Tikicat. Come see for yourself. |

Finally had my Tiki Cat visit last Friday! The drinks were solid and the decor was spot on with what I've read ("the perfect basement bar"). My only regret was being unable to return another day to consume the rest of my "must have" list of drinks - the brother in law wanted to try their bowl, The Luau, because he'd never been to a tiki bar and the notion of a giant flaming bowl was pretty radical for him, so I figured sure. Unfortunately their merchandise was run dry, sans t-shirts. Oh! And menus for $2, an excellent price. Our bartender Trenton (@puka_pumba on Instagram) was a great host and would have loved to chat w/him more. He was kind enough to throw in a handful of swizzle sticks on my way out. I'm going to have to email and ask those at Tiki Cat as to upcoming stock of their Aloha shirts and the sizing (the site says order a size or two smaller than normal - the ol' Aloha shirt game). The only true downside, and something I can't judge based off a one-night visit, was the whole reservation system. We made reservations for 615 and had seats at the bar (it was half full by then, lots of commotion inside). We were two drinks in and just starting that bowl when the hostess told us there were more reservations and that we had to get ready to move. We had a bowl full of booze, wtf? We're in the middle of enjoying our reservation! So we got unceremoniously placed at a bare black table. By that point, while pretty inebriated, we had received a major buzzkill. So is it impossible spend like, 4 hours there before you're booted out? Does anybody have an answer or similar experience? I'm typically good for about 4 tiki cocktails max, on an average visit. Since I can't guarantee when I'll return, I was (and slightly still am) pretty bummed. But, I took the hit for family that had never experienced the wonders of faux polynesia and tiki, so I'm at peace with that aspect. I just really wanted to try the coffee-based Grog Right Meow. :P Follow me on Instagram [ Edited by: kkocka 2018-07-09 16:27 ] |
