Picked up this cool tiki wall hanging about a year ago for $30 at an antique show. Always thought it looked like a Witco piece, but not at all convinced it is. It's not marked anywhere. Can anyone id this piece one way or the other? Any feedback is greatly appreciated- thanks! |

Cool item! I am not an expert but I do not think it is a Witco. Maybe someone else can say for sure. Still pretty cool though!! |

Thanks Dan (I'm Dan too btw!) appreciate the feedback. As I mentioned I wasn't convinced it was a Witco piece either. Generally speaking I agree with everything you wrote with one exception ...and that is it being "more of an Indian/Native type of character." Although, it certainly isn't done in a traditional tiki style, to me it still looks very tiki, but maybe in a more primative way. I've seen many other tiki carvings done like this. Anyway, I suppose that's some what subjective. Thanks again. If there's anyone else that can shed some more light on this I'd be grateful! -Dan |

I couldn't tell you if it's Witco either, but I like it a lot. $30 well spent I say. |

I agree with Taboo Dan in the sense that it reminds me a bit of Haida art. But it's hard to say if that was the intention of the carver/manufacturer, be it Witco or otherwise. I think it's a good looking piece, certainly suitable for any Tiki bar. I can't find anything really close but here are a few links to Haida animal figures so you can see what Taboo Dan and I are thinking: |

Thanks for the input, your photo examples were great, definitely made the comparison much clearer to me. By the same token, I think I'm now convinced it isn't a Witco piece. Still like it despite that, but admittedly started out having much higher hopes like ... "OMG, that's a rare Witco tiki from the primitive island jungle collection!" Or some such non-sense! Hahaha! |
