staining rattan

Any suggestions on how to make rattan/bamboo furniture darker? I have several dark pieces and one light end table --I'd like to darken it to match the others. Do you think regular wood stain would work?

the 4:1 lacquer thinner seemed so watery, but it was right!

All of my pieces are light, the natural color. If you like that bamboo color use Minwax golden oak stain. the more u put on the darker it gets. good luck.
