Toucans is a gay bar. CC and Anne Rider made art for them. They also have some OA stuff. Here's a link Anne posted in an earlier thread.

Hi,I put together a webpage of Toucan's Tiki Lounge in Palm Springs,CA.It was built in 2001 and opened in 2002.I know a lot of you can't make it out there because of distance and because it is mainly a gay male bar.At least this way you can see it via internet!
Aloha,Anne

Why is it that we can't "make it" because it is mainly a gay bar? Oracles can be woefully naive. Would the same be true if it were a straight bar? Can anyone give a more recent review? (The link above no longer functions.)

Thank you, tiki-ones.

O.

I've been to Toucans twice.

The first time I went was a bit of a nightmare. My brother-in-law and my sister invited me to hang out with some of their friends. We were having a really nice evening. Unfortunately, after my second martini, I wasn't feeling very well. I had my sister escort me to the ladies room. There was a very anti-straight sentiment being expressed amongst the clientele in the bathroom. (Mind you, this was before I started hurling.) Well, long story short, I proceeded to throw up in the parking lot for two hours straight. (No pun intended.) I was down with the flu for several days afterward.

The second time was far less dramatic. The bar hosted a group of folks on Cherry Capri's Modernism Tour at Oasis 5.

Not a bad place. Doesn't have a terribly high TISPY factor though.

Kate, I just wanted to point out that there's no such thing as the Stomach Flu, you had food poisoning. If the "anti-straight sentiment" was echoed behind the bar the poisoning might've been literal.

I don't believe that was the direction Tiki-Kate was going with her posting, freddiefreelance. I think taking it there was was a little out of place, and WAY off topic.

Toucan’s Palm Springs is pretty cool! Got some old school vibe to it although the drink menu does not feature any of the classics save a Mai Tai (Hawaiian style). I had a Stella and My wife tried the m t.
The barkeep Jim was personable and attentive to our needs.
There is too much light in the place (inho) due to the glass doors in the walls. The decor gave me some ideas that I may try in my happy talk lounge/shark bite bar. I also have more natural light in my place than I want but I’m working on a solution. I really liked the tiki torches with fake flames.
I’d luv to have some tiki torches in my place but I sure don’t wanna burn it down before its completed. We were there about noon or so and had a very pleasant time. Check it out when you’re town.
The link (geocities) is long gone so I ‘m adding some pix to this post.
Cheers
entrance looking towards the parking lot. Sorry bout the bright light.

next two are the same entrance from one side.

too bad the movie screen is blocking out part of a nice mural

one of several “tiki grottos”. I think it had water in it at some time.one pic with flash, one without.

another tiki grotto

one of a pair of well worn “tiki poles" flanking the dance floor

next two are some cool chunk swags (there are more hanging throughout)

Heres my tiki queen at the bar

there are many more tikis that I did not get pix of.
Cheers

We just visited Toucans a few days ago, this was my first time. Good drinks, good prices, and nice atmosphere, we will go back. I took some pictures of their light fixtures, I was sure I had seen some pictures of their tikis on TC somewhere.. :)

LOL...turn your speakers on and click on that link in the second post by Alnshely.
