oh man, there's so many "wood" jokes to come up with, my brain just exploded.

I always thought something like "Salida Ripon and the Jack Tones" had a nice ring, but then I drive through the Central Valley a lot.

or a movie...

There's a bar in San Francisco called Tounge and Groove. I think it's a lesbian bar.

This just in... Tongue and Groove has just released their first album "Morning Wood".

And their second to be named "Evening Lay"

Speaking of cool band names, my favorite is "Pen-Pal Letterbomb".

How about The Pink Tacos? Get It?

The Hard Rock Casino has a restaurant named "The Pink Taco"... seriously.
My wife wasn't too thrilled when I HAD to buy a shirt from there. If I remember correctly, their slogan is "Eating out never tasted this good".

I've got a few of their records. They were a little harder than Pop Will Eat Itself. They also had a somewhat secret name they used to work under that was even better...
Lesbian Dopeheads on Mopeds.

T

The Purple Helmets with their first album: "The Rise of the Purple Helmets". Single from Album: "Here Come The Purple Helmets"

Name before PH. The Shadowcasters; Same concept just had something to do with movie theaters and sitting in the back row.

This is the on again/off again band I play in and our Album name that we never did record, but we rocked it mannnn!!!!

C

I always liked "Big Dictator and the Well Hungarians"

Chongolio

How about L7's performance as "The Camel Lips" in John Water's Serial Mom? Scary is the only word that springs to mind.

WHAT HATH I WROUGHT?! :) i was just working on some floor design drawings and thought the term "tongue and groove" was poetic when removed from the techincal context. as in music = groove, and tongue = vocals.

i was just being a cunning linguist.

Ever heard of the Yeastie Girls? They had a minor hit with "You Suck" about the above subject.

One of my favorite band names: Dumpster Juice

Jeez, I can sing bits of that one....I hang my head in shame.
Wasn't their single called 'Ovary action' or something?

By the way, I claim the name 'Anal Fondue' for my experimental extreme noise/grind band.

Trader Woody

DZ

One of my old roommates played bass for a band called "The One-Handed Readers". They frequently shared the bill with an all-girl band called "Ballgagger" (that ShipwreckJoey has some sort of connection to if I'm not mistaken)

With a name like that, they were destined for success, but alas, nothing 'came' of them...

Right you are Dr. Z. My niece played bass in Ballgagger for awhile. My last wife played guitar with a girl band called The Castration Squad. This in 1978, back in the days of the Masque, the Starwood and the Roxy...L.A.'s "golden era" of punk. Back when you could go to a show and the only people who beat you up were the police.

Here's the Canonical List of Weird Band Names:
http://sam.hochberg.com/bandname.html

I like "Five Fat Guys Who Rock"

Sabu

I'm torn between "Brutal Noodle" and "Traveling Dingleberries".

The "Dayglo Abortions" is my favorite local band name.
With such albums as "Feed us a fetus" and "Little man in the canoe" how can you go wrong?

And of course, my favorite album cover of theirs:

That was a pretty big list and I didn't really feel like reading it all. But I listen to some pretty bizarre stuff and I don't think any form of music can top Grind Core band names... here are a few of my favorite...

Bitch Infection
Alien In Uranus
Cock And Ball Torture
Squash Bowels
Birdflesh
Pungent Stench
Purulent Spermcanal
Catasexual Urge Motivation
Lymphatic Phlegm
Anal Bleeding
Libido Airbag
Count Chopula
Dead Infection
Retch
Gruesome Stuff Relish
Necrovomit
Oxidised Razor
Scum Bitch (They have the funniest song names EVER)
Bowel Stew
Mastic Scum
Vomit Remnants

I could go on forever but I will leave it at that. Maybe later I will post some cracked out song names. Oh and most the cover art is equally funny/sickening as the names.

Oh, I get it. It's like names that your grandmother would cringe at. Now that's talent!

Eh, quite honestly they don't make these names to shock people, it's basicly for the fans to laugh at. I guess if it does offend anyone than oh well. I've gotten booted out of places for some shirts of those bands haha.

When you've nothing to say, wear a manufactured shirt...

Hubby heard "Mustard Plug" open for the Planet Smasher's concert the night before last. That name always makes me giggle :)

My friend always thought "Hell Toupee" would be great. I think someone actually did it.

nancy druze militia

Mermaid Man and the Barnacle Boys

After listening to the Condi Rice hearings, I've decided to name my (ficticious) band "Freedom Deficit".

I've wanted to have a tobacco themed band:

Nicotina and the Fags

I still may use it.
You may not.

I always wanted to start a band called "Tastes Like Chicken" but someone beat me to it.

A friend came up with a good one after an unfortunate incident, "Popcorn and the Dog Vomit"

I my gross-out-rock-n-roll-love-story screenplay I have an all girl band called "Grouchie Pants."

Formikahini,

I commend you for "Nicotina and the Fags"

Similarly, I'd like to start my own Death-Mariachi band called "Los Pitocin and the Inducers".

Did anyone ever go see a band that used to play at the Lingerie and other venues in L.A. back in the early to mid '80's called "Roid Rogers & the Whirling Buttcherries"...now that's a NAME. Helluva good band too. I remember when they were interviewed in L.A. Weekly or NOMAG (don't remember) when asked about the band membership Roid replied - "three two holers and two three holers". I guess that's what it all boils down to in the end.

...don't remember them, but I remember a band called "Buck Naked and the Bare Bottom Boys" He wore nothing but a well placed plunger on a g-string. He ended up getting beat to death in a bar brawl, but damn, was that one fine band!

How about .......V-Lad and "The Lil Putins" .....???

I like your nicotine name too .......who is the lead singer ...Paul Mall........??

Let me know what you think .......plzzzzzzzzzz.

RADOX WHORE

Y

I was in Ballgagger (the all girl band) and was wondering who Shipwreck Joey's niece was? We had three bassist through out our career.

Her name is Bobbie. She was on the '97/'98 tour. She's now married to Corky Pigeon (Gain drummer and Ricky Schroeder's pal on the '80's TV show Silver Spoons) and she just had the cutest baby girl I've ever seen.

There's an article on great band names in today's SF Chronicle:

Yes, he mentions Brian Jonestown Massacre. :D
