Also, I think it was dangergirl who told me about this place, but Peg’s Glorified Ham & Eggs for breakfast is really damn good. Maybe the Sunday AM hangover helper....

M

And who doesn't want to take a trip to Joe Bob's Chicken Palace!!!

(warning: chicken nudity)

It's white trash heaven!
(We actually should not go)

I guess I was too drunk to remember! Well, they both are good despite the differences. You can't beat the classic "old Reno" atmosphere at the downtown one so it's a must when were downtown.

Downtown's pretty compact so we can see it all in a one night depending on how long we want to linger at various bars or casinos.

M

I was gonna say- I know you're the beef expert, so I just naturally assumed you were drunk. Which is fairly common in Reno.

I highly recommend the Great Basin Brewery for those who like good beer like their Ichthyosaur Ale(Just say 'Gimme an Icky').

Let me get this straight?!?! If you want a good beer in Reno, you go to a place that sells an "Icky" and if you want a good burger, you go to a place that sells an "awful, awful"!?!
Let me guess, if I want to win big, I should go to a place that has slots called "no chance"?

tickets arrived today! happy happy!

there is also a coupon book that has some benihana and ichiban vouchers in it. anyone want to hit one of those for dinner one night? there is a VERY picky eater in the group and {i promise i won't give away HER name but she lives in ripon and is tall} burgers and steak ain't~agunna cut it for HER.

if there are any other light eaters in the group, this tall gal {with brown hair and brown eyes} and i will probably be going there for sushi one of the nights.

My ticket arrived yesterday.....whee!

T

I got my tickets! I'm in coach #6. Is everyone else in that coach? It's printed on your ticket. (the seats are assigned as well but they don't tell you what seat you're in until you board)

so what are we wearing on the train? are we wearing aloha shirts or are we going to dress vintage 50's or the stylish wwjd shirts? what is the immediate plan upon arrival at the nugget?

also is anyone bringing music?

as for mr. smiley and myself, one of us may be dressed as Elvis and the other will be in a poodle skirt and bullet bra/sweater girl combo.... and then we'll switch halfway through.

but don't let that influence YOUR fashion decisions!

Well, my finances are screaming at me and it looks like I should back out of this trip--I don;t know if it is sold out, but this means that two tickets will be available in case any othe TC memebers want to go.

What?! Unga Bunga and now you too? Who's going to sing in the piano lounge now? :(

M

But...but...I want to see Mrs. Miley in a poodle skirt! With a cone bra! What a cruel world.

Of course, my whole immediate future hinges on an MRI and potential knee surgery, so I could miss any number of events from now through June...unbelievably depressing. sigh

what's wrong with your knee?
let us know what hospital you'll be at, and maybe you'll get paid a visit by our favorite lovable Crossdresser...

T

The best of luck Martin! You'll need your knees in Reno!

H

I'm so frickin excited. I'm also in #6, and my lovely date for the weekend is going to be Monica! We're going to fly into Oakland Thursday night, anyone down for a get-together that night at Trader Vic's, the Conga Lounge or Club Mallard?

Mr. Smiley, you've gotta come, Monica & I are cruisin' for a Brucein'. Martin, what happened to your knee?!? Gosh, I hope you're alright, that sounds like nasty business. I'm game for abandoning my plan for a wheeled cart for my drunk ass, instead, my drunk ass will push you all around in a wheeled cart. If you guys don't make it, my fun will be inadequate.

WWJD? All three in the same night!

M

Dangergirl could not get Friday off, so that makes any chance of us taking the Train no longer a possibility. If the weather is tolerable, we may drive up Saturday morning and spend the night. :(

T

Can't wait 'til Friday!

Who's bringing the rumaki?

I'm bringing a couple of quarts of heavily spiked rum punch!

OK, I've gotta ask, what do you spike Rum Punch with?

Hahaha! You spike it with that guy buried in Grant's Tomb!

Hey -- I just started a new thread for a get together the night before the Reno Fun Train:

http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=13470&forum=4&0

Monica & I are getting in tomorrow night, please come play with us if you're able! Otherwise, I'll see you on the TRAIN!

K

I'd love to meet some of you all in Reno this weekend (especially for a Trader Dick's night and anything else for that matter) but I'm not sure when I'll be able to make it down the hill (Fri or Sat night). Could someone PM me their cell number so I can find out when you'll be where? Or email me at [email protected]. Thanks! I look forward to seeing you all! K

I'll never order a "Market Price" seafood entree again!

The plan for next year is to book the Hawaiian train way in advance.

the tramps will also be at lake tulloch resort. it is only about 30 min east of the dark marq. the bar area has a great view of the lake and the camp grounds in the area use to be cheap. here is a link to the resort:

hmmm. could this be another gathering in the making?

Great idea! Sure beats going to Folsom.

Friday night: the Saddle Tramps and camping under the stars. Saturday: visit the Dark Marq room?, Minnie's, overnight at a motel in Modesto. Let's post this as an event!

I looked into staying at the resort and there's a 2 night minimum on weekends so camping seems like a good option.

Sensational weekend! What fun. Great to hang with the train gang. Let's see some photos, eh?

Yes, where's humuhumu and her photos?

H

Humuhumu's drowning in a backlog of photos -- 529 of them to be exact, from a number of things going back a couple weeks. To help you understand... if my photo backlog were, say, a fish-shaped cracker, it would be ¡Sabor Explosivo! However, it's high on my priority list, so you'll see them soon. And, uh, maybe a little video, too....

M

My message is the same. I've got a lot of winners to get through. I'de love to post them to TC directly, but it will probably be too heavy on the bandwidth.

Just you wait....

T
thejab posted on Tue, Mar 8, 2005 7:19 PM

Video?! Uh oh.

H

Okay, here they are... I haven't taken time to delete out the really, really crappy ones, so you'll have to sift a bit to find the only-slightly-crappy ones.

Video to come.

Critiki - Ooga-Mooga - Humu Kon Tiki

[ Edited by: Humuhumu 2005-09-23 15:10 ]

Your friend, and mine, weirduncletiki suggested that this would be the best way to get a message to the to the fellow Tiki occupants of Amtrak car #6.

So to cynfulcynner, Humuhumu, martiki, mrsmiley, the drunken hat, thejab, tikicleen, Ed, and Rebecca I say, “Mahalo nui loa” for the good times and the assistance navigating over under around and through Reno.

It just hit me yesterday that I had a staggering amount of booze on this trip. I guess that was precisely the point. No wonder I’m so sprawled out on the couch in the photos at The Peppermill. :)

Now, in light of our drinking (and dining) experiences at the hotel, I’ll leave you with these slightly bent Hawaiian phrases from Keola Beamer’s web page:

These really nice napkins seem to match my underclothing.

Ku maika'i keia mau kawele pepa i ke 'ano o ko'u 'a'ahu palema'i.

This Merlot is an ungrateful bitch.

He kanapapiki mahalo 'ole keia mea inu Merlot ia'u.

Waiter, my papaya has been previously fondled.

E ke kuene, ua milimili 'e 'ia neia mikana!

The busboy has cursed me and I am ashamed.

Ua ho'ohalahala 'ia mai nei au na ke kuene, a hilahila ihola au.

Aloha, High Roller! Welcome to Tiki Central. Stick around, enjoy the company, have a few drinks (just what you nedd, eh?). Good to see you in Reno and now here on TC.

-Weird Unc

I went to Trader Dick's in Reno on Saturday with a friend and thought it was cool. Didn't some folks say it was run down and stinky? Maybe they have fixed it up but I didn't notice any bad smells. I also thought it was a great deal (compared to Trader Vics prices) that tropical drinks were around $5 and for $2-3 extra you get to keep the mug.

It was very relaxing hanging out there over a drink and listening to the Hawaiian music.
