THE GHASTLY ONES @ FrightNightLA July8th North Hollywood

Pages: 1 4 replies

Hi Folks,
I intend to go to this event, which promises to be very cool. Two uncut horror films, with the Ghastly Ones (one my favorite surf bands) playing a full set in between.
Eric Pigors will have his traveling spook art exhibit on display.
All this is happening on Friday July 8th at the CIA which is on 11334 Burbank Blvd, North Hollywood. Doors open at 8:30 pm. Price - $10.
I'll try to make it up earlier to hit the Tiki-Ti.

Hoping to see some of you there (Mr.Smiley - will you be in town?)

Whoa, are you kiddin' me? I thought they (the Ghastly Ones) hung up their hooves some time ago. I'm so giddy right now I can hardly stand it. I wish we could go, but we got Asphalt Invitational and Strangers CC this w/e to 'tend and vend to...

Reverb, please check back and report in on the show to this thread, pretty please? I'll be your best friend...@;-)

Quick time videos of the whole show, as shot by my friend from the surf mailing lists San Barry.
The show was late, short and the place was hotter than hell and packed like a sardine can. The band was much tighter than the show I saw in April, but the heat affected the energy level a bit. The evening would have been much better if the movie before the show was better (and if the organizer shortened the too long raffle).

Damn, we can sympathize, it's been swelter skelter here in Norcal, too. It's hot as hell, because there's so many sinners in SoCal @;-)

Thanks for the clips. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for more show updates.

Rae

Well, shoot! I just went back to check the band link, and the account has been suspended. @:-(

I was there and it was an incredible show. I happened to enjoy the movie (the Ghost in the Invisible Bikini) but I have bad taste in movies and basically just like kitschy stuff so what can I say? The movie did have tikis in it, if that redeems it at all. There were some by the pool while the kids go-go danced to fuzzed out instros by the Bobby Fuller 4. As far as the Ghastlys, they were just amazing, and very friendly as well. I must also make note of the club, the CIA. Not tiki, but one of my fave places in the world. It has a sideshow theme and there are strange artifacts and memorabilia all over, including shrunken heads and an alligator mummy in the bar.
