Betty Boop Vintage Polynesian Cartoon

Pages: 1 5 replies

There is a 1932 Betty Boop cartoon called 'Bamboo Isle'. The cartoon seems to capture how folks (Americans, at least) visualized Polynesia in the 30s.

The cartoon is pretty politically incorrect by today's standards. The cartoon has music provided by a group called The Royal Samoans. There are a number of rotoscoped Polynesian dance sequences, as well as a topless(!) Betty Boop.

You can check it out at Archive.org. Boop-oop-a-doop-oop!

I had that cartoon on a "Pre-Code" tape. Kinda liked it!

Tnanks Tikipedia, great cartoon. I think I caught that one on a show that was on TV in the mid '80's called Night Flight that came on at midnight and showed some of the most rad, obscure, and off-the-wall stuff people like you & me would make a point to come home early from the bar and stay up and watch (that & New Wave Theatre).

That was great!

I downloaded it then fed it through the tv. I'm a huge fan of vintage cartoons like that.

Thank You.

I love Betty Boop's cartoons, and this one is of course one of the best. They made a really nice 5 DVD box of Betty Boop's films.
