Recipe: USA versus Metric Once

Pages: 1 3 replies

I been making tiki drinks for a while know, and although very satisfied with the outcome of most of them i am wondering if my jigger mesurments are right. US ounces are slightly larger than a metric ounce.Thats a fact and i am in Canada so we use metric. To me, it should be the same thing for recipes just a little smaller drink, am i right? My Mai Tai's are a little strong can this be the due to my METRIC JIGGER?please help.

I have two OXO brand liquid measure cups(they go to 1/4 cup).

One is from Canada and has tbsp and ml on the inside, oz and cups on the outside.

The other is from the US and has tbsp and oz on the inside, ml & cups on the outside.

When I fill one up, then pour it into the other, they are identical.

Does this help? I have no idea.

Is 30ml = 1oz?

After further examination, I've found that 30ml equals almost exactly 1oz on both measuring devices.

In the US 28ml = 1oz, in Canada 29.57ml = 1oz.

Pretty darn close.

I found this great conversion site the other day...
http://www.onlineconversion.com/cooking_volume.htm

Just about any different type of measurement, it has it.

It has been extremely helpful for me in figuring out total volume, up-scaling recipes, and approximate prices for making small drinks as well as large scale punch sized drinks.

Hopefully it will be as useful for you.
