Musical Hula Doll

I almost never post on this forum because I never find anything in Wisconsin worth showing. But yesterday my wife brought me back a gift from a thrift store that I thought you'd like to see, so I'm taking Humuhumu's advice and posting it on it's own thread.

It's a musical, hula dancing doll that she found at a thrift store for $2.92! Her hips swing and her whole body slowly spins to the tune of Aloha Oe. I got most of her hair unknotted (which if I'm not mistaken might be real), and I had to take her apart to fix the motor inside. All it needed was for me to take off a piece of that white, plastic skirt stuff that had gotten wrapped around a gear.

There is no names, dates, or any markings anywhere, so I don't know where she's from or how old it is. It might be from Hawaii in the 50's or it might be from Spencer's last week, I just don't know.

Hey, I saw one similar to that one at a friend's luau summer before last. If I recall correctly, it was a gift to the host. Someone set it up to run on the pool table, it was pretty neat. I used to have a video of it running, but I can't find it, here's some photos instead:

I had the impression at the party that it was a new item, but I don't know for sure.

Funny you should post this....I found one just like it a month ago at my local thrift store. I was sure she wouldn't work, but I'm happy to say she works just fine.

Those are sold at the ABC Stores as Hawaiian souvenirs, they retail for $9.99 so you got a good deal. They come in 4 different color skirts: Green, red, yellow or white.
