Howzit everyone? This post goes out to all the kanakas and kanaka's at heart who keep the spirit of Tiki alive and well! I originally found this site by googling my name and I came up as a topic (I carve miki'oi Hawaiian makau/fishhooks with ki'i of Hawaiian gods and aumakuas)!!! Its been awhile since Ive been back but its great to see that so many people in this world still appreciate tiki-ana, Hawaiiana, and oceanic art, pop culture etc.

From what Ive read so far on many posts, there are a lot of akamai (smart, intelligent), funny & warm people who use this great site and I feel a sense of comfort knowing that unlike the great Polynesian pop culture movement of the 50's and 60's which somewhat died and fell to the wayside, it will always be alive and well and live on proudly thanks to all of you out there!

So, Im excited to be a part of this site and look forward to reading and responding to all the great story thats being talked out there! You can also check out my website at http://www.cabanillamakau.com to see some samples of my carvings!

ALoha and Mahalo!!!

That is some great work.
I just bought a decent fish hook from Tafio on Oahu/North Shore next to the Shrimp Wagon furthest west.
Dude was playing some uke so I joined him for a few tunes.

Anyway - your stuff is fantastic.
Hope to own some of it one day.

Welcome to Tiki Central.

Malama Pono!

aloha,

a few months back i went to kauai and oahu in search of an awesome makau (along with nui tiki!). was that your work at the outrigger on the beach or the royal hawaiian mall in oahu? or at any of the small makai side shops in kauai?? i saw some similar makau there, but the mammoth ivory and walrus or whale bone where a bit out of my price range at the moment... but very beautiful work.. i'm almost positive i saw your logo somewhere in my travels, it's nice to have the manawa kupono to say mahalo nui loa for da hana. (sorry about the broken hawaiian, i'm still learning)... anyway, komo mai...

aaron :tiki:

Aloha bruddah Aaron! (did I spell your name right?)
Mahalo for the kind words! And yes! you may have seen some of my carvings on Kaua'i but not on Oahu...I sell to 2 shops in Ching young village in Hanalei and at "the end of the Rainbow" in Haena...
And yes! The whale bone and walrus pieces are pricey but well worth it if the carving is done right... These materials are very rare and carry heavy mana as opposed to most beef bone makau and carvings out there for sale in the abc stores and tacky tourist shops...Now that Im a part of the great TC ohana I can offer you makepono prices for da kine unlike the prices most malahini pay for miki'oi kine carvings...Anytime your interested just let me know brah! Ill "hook" you up with da kine anytime! And that goes for all the great people on this site as well!

Mahalo again!
