It's been over a year since I posted any of my carvings, mostly because I'm pretty low-tech, but I'm so inspired by all the other posts of different carvers and i thought the time has come to share more of mine with all yall.... So here ya go.

Do you know these newlywed tiki freaks?
This is a golf trophy I made for Realtors Association.

This guy is over 10 ft tall and very heavy.

This is a trophy I carved for the C St Longboard Competion in Ventura

Heres one of my tiki bars

There's one of my palapas!
heres one of my bars.
Thanks for looking!!

It has been too long Von , You got some amazing stuff going down.

Dont take so long for the next updates.

V

Thanks Rodeo, I'll try to keep it current.I still have a wrath to unload, but this is a good start.

awsome and amazing stuff

Welcome back vontiki nice work keep it up.

Very nice work, especially like the one with the (Wahoo wind vein?) holding the Mahi.
Keep it commin'

You have clearly been working hard Von Tiki...but it's fun work isn't it! There are so many

Cool post, man you made a lot of tikis, I like so many of the ones you posted. I like your group shot pictures too, cool stuff Man.

V

Thanks, I'm glad you guys enjoy them as much as I do. I just got a "real" job, so production has slowed down a little bit. I can't wait to carve more. I never draw them on first, I use the chainsaw as my pencil, find the tiki within and pull him out.

J

WOW ! Once you dazzel em with quality, you then overwhelm em with quantity.
JP

H

Von Tiki, you are a great carver and you have one of the best variety of tikis I have seen in a while. Keep up the good work and keep us posted. :tiki:

Hey Bro! I'm glad that you decided to share a few of your carvings on TC, you are a madman with a chainsaw! Although, all you Ventura folks have probably already heard of the infamous Von Tiki....

YOu got a day job?!?!?! I hope it still leaves time for carving!

Live Aloha!!!!

B

Way to go VonT, I thinks you have a Bunch of Cool tikis there and your detail is getting better. Keep it up.

V

Thank you. Thank you very much.

WooHooo! Tiki-rrific Work :)

H

Your carvings are always great. More pictures please.

T

Nice! Yes, I agree, more pics!

nice, deep, smooth carves. Nice to see your work again, my friend. I like the addition of the "good luck" horseshoe.

Can't wait to see what else you got for us!

edit - okay, I'm looking at your carving again and I notice a hanging table?!?!? to the left of the tiki it's a ship's block attached to a round table, but it has no legs! maybe it's the angle of the shot that I can't see what's supporting it, but is it hanging from the corner of your tiki bar? From rope? or from taught cable? does it swing? Sorry about the questions, but I'm totally intrigued!

V

it's a swinger baaby! It's hanging by rope. A friend of mine was moving and asked if I wanted it. I was all over it.

Crap!

Now I'm going to have to revise my chapter I had about you in my new book:

Where Are They Now?: The Early Artists of TC

Well, I guess I'll move on to TikiG's chapter now...

Buzzy Out!

VON!!!!! Nice to see you man!!!!! Great work!

Davez..... (doubravsky)

V

I'm currently working on a Marqueses inspired tiki.
It's gonna be a big one. This log is over 9ft and weighs about 400 lbs

I really like the Electric planer compared to the draw knife, whew! Thanks Buzz!

I don't usually draw on the log first, but it's so big, I need some guide lines.

Just started my first cut and I killed my saw!!

Curious bystander does push ups while I carve.

I got a brand spanking new saw!!!

I'm gonna keep this guy G rated, he'll have a package like a GI Joe figure, but no woodpecker! Haha

Deadline is Sunday. I have to install this dude before the Nascar Party at my client's house. It's crunch time tomorrow.

I'll post more pics tomorrow. Thanks for looking!

Looking good.... more pics!

YOUR SHORTS!

heh, that looks good. where you been buddy? waiting for the seet weather! are you going to poly it and make it shiny?

NICE! That marq is ALL your style! one of a kind! great carves, my friend - your customer is gonna love it!!!

C

Yes Vontiki, the Marq is killer! Some great twists on the classic
style.

V

That's pretty funny Drake! Today I'll stain THE TIKI and weather permitting ( got the June Gloom) I'll varnish with a satin finish, not the high gloss.I might just put lots of weather seal on it after the stain and no varnish or polyurathane, I'm undecided.
Thanks for looking!

F

Nice!
How do you get your palm wood so smooth?
Mine is always rough and full of splinters.

V

Lots o'sanding!
Angle grinder with a sanding attatchment.

Makes it smooth!!

Love the unique look this guy has! Definitely Marq, but all your style.
Very cool, can't wait to see the finish.

B

Excellent tiki Von, Love the Smooth finish and the sweet detail and it's GIANT!

V
