Would you enjoy a cruise out of So Cal? Let us know!

Pages: 1 32 replies

Ran into WooHoo and SoccerTiki last night at the Royal Hawaiian and we got to talking about cruises. As you all may already know, WooHoo is a travel agent. We thought it would be awesome to get a bunch of TCers together and take over a ship and PARTY!
So would anyone be interested? We could do a 4 dayer out of San Pedro that just hops to Catalina and Ensenada. Or if anyone's really into it, the 7 day out of San Pedro to Mexico (I beleive it's Cabo, Mazatlan and Puerto?) or (WooHoo, you'll know this) I heard there would be an 8 day out of san Diego to Mexico that includes Ixtapa/Zihuateno. My family usually does a New Years Cruise and parties for 4 days straight-that's pretty cool. But we could whenever-the sooner the better!!
I can just see us now, the rum flowing and the rythyms playing as the sun sets. Theme nights! Forget formal night! We'll do Fez and bark-cloth gown night! Pirates and wenches, Island of Bikini night, Tarzan and Jane, Archeoligist and native girl...etc...
Party all night long and no worries about driving home!
Shop, shop, shop. Eat, eat, eat. DRINK DRINK DRINK.
Well? Yous guys in? Let us know!

The 3 Day Cruise leaves every Friday a 5:30pm and returns Monday morning at 8:00am

3 Day Baja Mexico Itinerary
Day 1 Depart Long Beach 5:30pm
DAY 2 Ensenada 9:00am to 6:00pm
Day 3 "FUN" Day at Sea
Day 4 Return to Long Beach 8:00am

Can you imagine a Tiki Take-Over on a Cruise Ship??? WooooHooooo!!!

I think we would be into a 3-day cruise. Couple questions from someone who hasn't done much of the cruise thing, what would something like this cost and would kids be there or do we need to consider babysitting options also.

Sounds like a great idea and would love to see this take off!

We always bring the kidlettes. The younger ones go to Camp Carnival. The older ones hang out at the arcade, pool and ice cream/pizza spot. We make them check in with us every couple of hours. They have the camp for evenings too, they call them "sleep overs" and they can stay almost the entire night (If you forget where you put them!). My girls are now 11 and 15, they have made a lot of friends over the years (been cruising for all their lives)that they keep in touch with and even try to set up all the parents to take the same cruises!
I'm positive WooHoo can get some sweet rates! Usually, for the 3 day, I pay around $250.00 (including tax and port fees).
I kinda like the one that goes to Catalina, too. But it's Mon to Fri and you miss work. Maybe latter!
This would be a great start and beats one night at a bar!!
Happy Day!!

Oh come on! It'll be fun! Specially with Tiki Pals running amok!
Any one?.... Beats sittin around at home or the same ole places!

Wow. 125 views and no one wants to go? Well, I guess I'll just have to smuggle enough rum on board for WooHoo, SoccerTiki, Netty and and the Mr.

I

This is a great idea! The 3 day works best for us. The mister and I just got back from a 7 day cruise from Tampa and he's ready to go again. Let me know when to pack my bags.

YES!! Alooooooo HA!

E

Wow, a tiki cruise! The greatest idea since sliced bread! Unfortunately, we're on the East Coast and book cruises that sail out of our hometown (NYC). Still, with enough notice, we might be able to drop in on my wife's sister in the Bay Area and just happen to hook up with a nice, well-stocked ship -full of tikiphiles! Sad to say, I've never had a decent mai tai on a cruise ship, but even an iffy one tastes great in a deckchair with Martin Denny on the headphones...)

Would love to do tiki cruises out of East Coast, as well. I'm usually going out of Miami to Carib.
I agree with the quality of drinks on board. This is why we smuggle our own mix and booze on board. We buy the first drink in a "keepsake" glass and just reuse it w/ our own good stuff. I have also had success in getting the bartenders to let me tell them exactly how I want it and with what. They are good natured and one actually allowed me to go behind a squeeze oranges! But it's cheaper to bring your own!

OK... I'm bored out of my skull. The whole Domestic Goddess thing is just not doing it for me. If I have to shuttle one more party of tutu'd girls to ballet or scrape one more wad of gum off my couch, I'm gonna go friggin postal. Don't get me wrong, I love the lil self absorbed lurches, but I need a break.

SO... I'm trying to set up a cruise to just get away a bit. Anyone interested? I need a little ME time. So if anyone's into hedonistic, rum swilling, dance all night, inappropriate behavior, by all means, welcome aboard!

I'm looking into the one out of LA, 3 or 4 day down to Mexico. It's not about the destination, it's about the RIDE getting THERE. Wink wink. Savy?

More info to follow.

I haven't been on a cruise in a while. I've done a couple of 3 day bahama and a 4 day Mexican Riviera cruises. I got sea sick on the 4th day, I don't want to push my luck, so a 3 day cruise is plenty for me. I'm all over this. :)

WHAT! NO CRUISE TO HAWAII PLANNED!! :o

How about departing from the Port of San Francisco down to SoCal and on to Mexico?

Mrs.Mojo and I Love going to Mexico....warm and tropical like da islands put less expensive! 8)

I spend all my money on drinking on the cruise ships anyhow....I sure would rather do it with TCers!

IMPORTANT NOTE HERE THOUGH: If we, (TC), were to plan a cruise to anywhere we must take along Martin from Forbidden Island....the drinks on board most, (ALL the ones I've been on), cruises SUCK and they are WAY over priced! Scratch that thought....If Martin were to go there wouldn't be enough room aboard the ship for ALL THE LIMES!!! :D :drink:

A cruise out of SF would be more of a possibility for me and mine.
Yeah, Martin should be coerced to mix. Jim could also stand in for him.

MexicanTiki and I would be interested in a SoCal cruise, as long as you plan it during warm weather season. We desert rats don't take too well to cold.

WooHooWahine and I just got back from a 7-day New England/Canada cruise out of New York...As beautiful as it was, we were both thinking "Mexican Riviera"!!!!! Even the 3 day out of LA would be fun with a bunch of friends on board!!

WOOOOHOOOO ANother Cruise!!! :) 3 or 4 day Baja Cruise, Mexican Riviera, or Hawaiian Cruise, just give me the location and some dates and I will do my homework to get something put together.

DIN-O-MITE!!
Seeing that WooHoo is the brains for travel arraingements around here...
When is a good time, weather wise, for this cruise? (We enjoyed the New Year's one, a lil cool, but the rum kept us warm!)
Do they have ones out of Frisco to Mexico for 3-4 days? Cuz I MAY be willing to go up and see the Fam that lives in Sacramento prior to Bon Voyage!
After our first "sampler" cruise, anyone want to try to coordinate us all going for a good long one? My whole Fam will be cruising during Spring Break AND Summer! One to Mex Riv and one to Carib, I believe.
REALLY want to go on the one to HW that you leave from San Diego, or fly to HW and then cruise around the islands (longer island time, less sea time).
How much fun would we all have?! Heck, give me a cracker and a glass of water, as long as Tiki Centralites are aboard, I'll have a blast!

Hey, wasn't that the name of the "Love Boat"?

Are the 3-4 day cruise ships big? I the ship I traveled in was either the Ecstacy or Fantasy. I think anything smaller would make me sea sick.
Hum, a New Year's cruise would be kind of cool.

Here's the Paradise's Stats:

Gross Tonage 70,367
Length: 855 feet
Guest Capacity: 2,052
Total Staff: 920
Crusin Speed: 21 knots

Just checking in to see if this idea (and the thread) is dead, or if there are still ideas/plans for a cruise simmering somewhere, with someone?

Soccer Tiki and I are thinking about doing the Hawaii Cruise RT from Long Beach this Summer. PM me for more info :)

We're in. No MAYBEs. IN! SOLID.
We are foregoing the annual camping trip in favor of complete service and laziness. Pick a date and let me know! (Spring Break may work...is the weather out in the Pacific OK then?)

Incidentally, I sure could use a breather real soon here. Thinking about a short run out of LA to Mexico. Would love to do the week long. But I'd settle for the Fri through Mon (3 day) or Mon through Fri (4 day). I know we're all up to our eye balls in Fam right now. (Which is why we NEED to get away!) So December's out. January, anyone?

WooHoo, If I may?.....

These are the two that sound best for Mrs.Mojo and I.
I personally wouldn't mind the time at sea for the most part, (been on the water all my life - still only blocks from the Yatch Club! :P ), but I'm not a very idle person, (laying on deck reading a book), I don't like throwing my money away gambling, the shows are sub-par, the mixed drinks are watery, poor and expensive and the worst part is that they put a liquor store on board and then take it away from you until after the cruise....excuse me, didn't they just make their money selling me a bottle of liquor?
If I want to go back to my room and mix my own Mai Tai shouldn't I be allowed? :drink:
So with that in mind a cruise ship is a floating hotel that can also get me around from port to port.
If you spend more time at sea than at port they've got ya by the short and curlies....it's all to get you spend more money.

The price is GREAT for the Mexico Cruise but my wife and I are DYING for Hawaii!
Am I understanding the HONOLULU ROUND TRIP correctly?
Fly from SFO to Honolulu then cruise 5 islands?
But what's this "Fees, tax $269." all about?
That better mean all port fees, gratuities, taxes and so on?
Still seems high?

Is a 4 Day Mexico from LA for New Years out of the question?
We have to drive down there the last week of December to close a couple of business deals and we have no plans for New Years. As long as we're down there hopping a cruise to ring in the New Year would be a BLAST! :D

Aloha Mr. TMJ! The fees stated are only port fees and taxes. When you cruise, you tip your room steward, the dining staff and Maitre de. The suggested amounts are on the ship's web site. You pay them on the last day. I usually set aside the cash way before the cruise. I never have tipped the suggested amount, sometimes more, sometimes less.
When you think about it though, $98.00 a DAY for Hawaii...!!!! With air! Food! Room! Entertainment! Etc!
Usually it's about that just to fly. Then there's the hotel room. The food, the transportation (Island hopping=$$$$. The souvenirs. You get it. It's a bargain. Unpack once and get blotto if you want! No driving, cleaning, cooking, shopping for groceries, etc.
As for the drinking/liqueur issue. We have ALWAYS brought our own bar mainstays packed deeply in our luggage. We use unbreakable bottles. we purchase the special drink-of-the -day on boarding, as it comes in a souvenir glass. Then we just reuse that one for the whole trip. Or the ones in the room or at the diner. We use their fruit (limes, lemons, tropicals, etc...) for fresh fruit juice. I usually can get tonic water for free from my waiter (Make yourself very friendly to him/her and tip ones right away and often and you'd be surprised at the sudden allegiance they'll show you! I got a bottle of rum and free sodas the entire cruise from a sweet Romanian girl that only spoke 2 words of English!)Our room steward never "saw" our bottles, lime peels, swizzles laying around. He wants his tip!
Entertainment? The MR enjoys the girls that dance in nothing but floss. Of course, there was the trip when the only entertainment was a poor substitute for Shecky. I think we were on the Senior Special. HOWEVER... Wherever 2 or more TCers are gathered, there shall be entertainment. Surprisingly, I had fun taking over the karaoke bar with my chums each night (must have been the constant soaking of rum.) Soccer Tiki should provide plenty of musical entertainment there! And if we request our rooms in the same general location/deck, we can have a room crawl. Usually, my family took over one of the hidden bar/lounges no one had ever found and we'd play Texas Hold 'Em all night. WE can use the different rooms (library, atrium, game room) for our own whatever! Perhaps a Show and Tell of our favorite mugs, carvings, necklaces, clothing... anything. We can pre plan for stuff like that. For Formal night, I always wore some vintage Hawaiian wear. It would be great if, for once, I wasn't the only one! If anyone likes dancing, you can spend the entire night on the dance floor. See ya there. Once, we found a member of the orchestra that played Uke! We'd seek him out after dinner and coerce him to play up on deck for hours! Or the Barbados band would find US and play steel drums and bass all night! After shows, members of the bands/orchestra sometimes get together and jam. We'd usually crashed the scene and it was great! We never got bored! We don't really spend money on any on-board stuff like casinos, stores, bar, etc... My uncle once got off the ship with all but $50.00 of his original $!! (Of course he was a cheap and miserly guy. I'd hate to be his steward! He's deceased now and probably trying to tell God He can get away with spending a lot less than He does now!)

As for the New Years idea...it is expensive due to the Holiday ($580 to $800!!). Plus it leaves on Fri, the 29th and gets back in port on Mon, the 1st. So you have to take into account the fact that you have to have your luggage packed and ready to be disembarked the night before arriving back in home port. New Years Eve. Then the hang over on the 1st. You have to get off the boat, find your car and drive home. Not fun even on a regular disembark! The 4 day leaves Jan 1st. So you kind of defeat the purpose, yet still pay the $$. Better off going to the shin dig at Bali Hai!

Either way, I think if we all go, it'll be AWESOME!! Anyone know how the weather is in HW during January? I HATE to fly!! But, if I take my pills, maybe! Otherwise, I like the cruise from San Diego and back.

HMMMMMMMM? Wow, Everyone on this posting has a lot to say. One thing to remember: If you are planning on going on a cruise the earlier you book it the better the fare. If you are really interested in going on a cruise please PM me for more information.
