Howdy. I'm looking for a whole bunch of bamboo. Something like 15 -20 pieces in 8' - 10' lengths, 2"-3" in diameter and preferably split into half-rounds. I found a couple places online, but shipping this stuff is a killer ($150 for bamboo, $250+ to ship!). The usual Home Depot type places usually have a couple large pieces, but they are pretty pricey too. Anyway, does anyone know of such a place? I'm in the north bay, but willing to go anywhere in the bay area/northern California for it. Cheers! |

Aloha, Marka. And welcome to Tiki Central. Good to see another North Bay person on here! I live in Santa Rosa, and have found 2 "local" places for bamboo supplies. My favorite place for live bamboo, but they also offer poles and furniture, is Bamboo Sourcery in Sebastopol ( http://www.bamboosourcery.com/ ). We have purchased many black bamboos and assorted items from them. Check out their website carefully... they have limited hours of operation which is open to the public on appointment basis only. Even if you don't purchase anything from them, their grounds are beautiful and worth the time to stroll around to see the different varities of bamboos which can grow in our area. Also, though I have never purchased anything directly from them, you can try the Bamboo Supply Company in Benicia ( http://www.bamboosupply.net/stakesandpoles.htm ) . Their prices are great on thatching, and they have all sizes of poles available. They have supply pickup hours during normal weekdays. I have also purchased large and small poles thru Ebay, and the shipping costs haven't been that bad. Good Luck!

Marka, I know that San Lorenzo lumber in the west side of Santa Cruz has a large assortment of bamboo. I think that you could probably pick up what you are looking for around the $150.00 price range there. |

Thanks, everyone! I found another place in the Santa Cruz area (Aptos, actually): http://bamboo4sale.com/. SC is a bit of a drive, but I'll check out the other ones. Thanks again! |

it sounds like you have sourced what you need, however if you would like to save a few dollars, it grows wild in a couple of parks along the Los Gatos Creek Trail. Vasona Park connects to Oak Meadow Park, and there is quite a lot of it there. Of course it's not cut or ready to use, however the price is good. (the leafy part of the plant is killer tho) Just sort of another idea |
