Well, I'm not very worldly, but if you are wondering if this would fit into your tiki-style decor, and you are worried that it might not be a "true" Polynesian or Hawaiian painting, I say just buy it if you like it!
I must say too that if the seller advertised this as a Hispanic painting (where the hec is 'Hispania' anyway?), with a colorful Mexican/Spanish blanket in the background instead of bamboo, I'd probably think "yeah, it's hispanic". Either way, it's cool.

Just my 2 coconuts worth.

Well, judging by the breast size I would say that...
Ha, I'm only kidding! No but seriously, the hairdo and flowers seem more Phillipino or Balinese, but still, a 1970 nude bar painting is always a find.

The nude painting supperclub is another lost American tradition. I was just marveling at a matchbook from the "Domino Club" on Sutter St in San Francisco:
"World famous for Cuisine, GLORIA & Galaxy of Paintings"
Then it has a picture of "Evelyn" on it (nude on a sheepskin rug) , and reads on
"One of nearly 300 oil paintings adorning the Domino Club dining rooms."

Inside it not only promises a Twin Piano Bar and a Vocalist, but a "Live Undraped Model"!?
I wonder if she was luxuriating in a red velvet draped box with an ornate golden frame around it, like a 3D oil painting...

Anyone in SF know anything about this club (and where all the art went!)?

Thanks sugarcaddydaddy...you are right, buying what you like is more important than where it is from!

Sven, I suspected Bali as you mentioned. Thanks for your input! By the way, do you happen to know why both nude and non-nude paintings of polynesian women were often green skinned? I have seen this skin tone many times , most recently in Mark Ryden's tiki paintings. It is a minor detail, but I wonder if there is a specific reason or just an artistic vision of women?? Just one of many things I don't know!!

The green lady craze was started by Vladimir Tretchikoff - of course, that's what he says - he is known to be rather boastful. But I think it's pobably true in this case. He is the artist behind the most famous green lady of all time!

Speaking of artists, I saw some quite nice prints of some polyneasian ladies on black velvet by a guy named E. Craig Hille III - got to look him up and see if it's worth going back and paying the antique store their exorbitant price. Anyone got any info?

Whenever Tretchikoff is mentioned, I have to recommend this fine book
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1861541945/qid%3D1040524389/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/103-1630691-1500625

and the website where you still can buy his prints http://www.tatea.com/PRINTTRECH.htm

and the Tretchikoff Yahoo group (!)
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vladimirtretchikoff/
(which is a tad less active than Tiki Central)

...and mention the fact that I love his "Lady of the Orient " painting I have in my bedroom :)

By the way, none of his green/blue skinned asian beauties were ever a.) nude, or b.) Polynesian. Still, because of the Chinese restaurant/Polynesian cross-fertilization they can be found in Tiki temples, like the Kon -Tiki in Tuscon, Arizona.
