Tiki traveling in Massachusetts

Just a little blog of last month's trip to the Boston/Cape Cod area.

A most enjoyable travelogue!
I had no idea there's so much going on up in Massachusetts. Have been to Kowloon, though, and it is a powerhouse.

If you get up that way again, BALI HAI is right near Kowloon -- sorry to reveal this after the fact! Was there in 2005, and they still had some mugs for sale back then as well.

Actually, since the travelogue linked to above is no longer available... here's a request: in a few weeks we're heading up to New England for a brief weekend visit, and we're looking for suggestions from like-minded individuals as to what we might do. We are likely already:
-spending a day on Route 1 around Saugus (Kowloon for dinner & Bali Hai afterwards)
-heading over to Concord to see Walden Pond
-doing dinner and the show at Hu Ke Lau in Chicopee
-possibly heading into Boston proper for a day

Our interests include:
-mid-century modern decor & architecture
-antiquing/tiki-hunting (including exotica/hawaiian vinyl LPs)
-liquor hunting (for what we can't find in DC)
-Roadside America-type kitsch

We have roughly a day and a half to fill up - any suggestions as to "don't miss" attractions would be welcome. We'll have a car, and aren't adverse to driving a couple of hours for something worthwhile. Thanks very much in advance for any assistance!

If you're going all the way to Chicopee, you could visit my favorite place in the world, the Quabbin Reservoir for sightseeing. I've been to Walden --kinda small.

MA hasn't exactly got a patent on roadside kitsch. Rte. 1 would be the drive to make to see what there is. Tikisgrl already got all the good antiques.

I left a few things... As for rare liquor Kappy's on route 1 might be a good place to go to. Antique stores are a lot fewer and farther between now but there's an okay one in Cambridge which is right near the Science Museum. And another nice Tiki exotic restaurant in Newton... check out the Northeast Tiki Tour site for some great locations to visit.

Three things I love most in Boston proper - not so tiki but definite cultural/arch. magic -

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum http://www.gardnermuseum.org/

Boston's North End - with our nearly completed multi-billion dollar Big Dig nightmare, you can now access the North End much more easily and admire the cities new 'greenway' park (not finished yet)
A slice of pizza, an espresso and a campari and soda! BTW - Martignetti's liquor right on the front corner of the North End has a great rum selection!

Fenway Park - Take a Tour, or see a game - the fun starts outside the game on Yawkey Way and continues in any of the local bars!

The Peabody-essex museum is a great stop as well. Located in Salem, its got a great Oceanic collection...and its in Salem, so there's plenty of kitchy witch stuff to see outside of the museum.

I thought that I'd revive this thread with a similar question that started it... My friend is going to be flying into Boston tomorrow and spending a week on Nantucket. Aside from Kowloon in Saugus, are there any other good/great tiki bars out there? I told him to look on Critiki, but sometimes it takes awhile for new info to be posted on that site. Thanks!

Bali Hai, in Lynnfield is about 15 minutes from Kowloon. Mon Kou, in Attleboro is worth a visit. While he's on the Cape, he might as well check out Tiki Port in Hyannis. Good food & drinks, a couple of Tikis & a nice mural.
