Just thought some of you would be interested in this. Universal Japan is reissuing some old vinyl on CD (I've heard a couple and they are NOT LP's transferred, they sould like they are from the master tapes). Just released earlier this month. Here are some links to check them out: Connie Francis "Hawaii Connie" Hal Aloma: Lure of the Islands Ohta-San "Ukulele Isle" Benny Kalama "Around the World In 80 Shakes" Ethel Smith "Make Mine Hawaiian" Sammy Kaw "Swing and Sway In Hawaii" Haunani "From Hawaii With Love" Sam Makia "Hawaiian Holiday" Jerry Byrd "On The Shores of Waikiki" John Hall "Directs Music From Honolulu" Many are Decca recordings. Man, I hope they eventually release other great Decca Hawaiian LPs including the Gene Rains group!! (fingers crossed) The links are to a japanese CD site. I'm not trying to endorse them or anything. I used to work for a place here in So. Cal. that Imported music from around the world. And we would get alot of these japanese releases where they looked like mini LP sleves. Many were Jazz, but classic rock and other styles were done also. Jeff(bigtikidude) [ Edited by: bigtikidude 2006-08-18 19:40 ] |

Yeah they are pricey, Japanese CD's have always been high. But I'm buying some because I don't know if they'll ever be released here in the states and I'm hoping they will release more. I'm still looking for some of the Hawaii Calls CD's that were released in Japan that are already out of print and impossible to find used. |

That has been my experience also. Usually the Japanese imports also include additional notes about the recording or artist, expanded cd cover or even extra tunes. |

Just received my 2 that I ordered! They are definately top quality recordings--very clean! There is a large fold-out paper with all Japanese writing on it that appears to talk about the recording, but I don't read japanese. The outside sleve looks exactly like the LP, even down to the back cover which is exact! Very nice. |
