I would like to get some advice on a good first time purchase. Also what are some good instructional aids. I see ukes on E-bay for 10.00 to 300.00 dollars. I would like to keep it under $100.00. Any other players in the Detroit Area? Mahalo

There are a couple of bulletin boards with lots of info on ukuleles. Check out http://www.fleamarketmusic.com and http://www.4thpeg.com .

Good luck!

you can't go wrong with a fluke. the sound great, play well, and are well made. They go for a little over 130 dollars. A little odd shaped, but who isn't

I'm from Canton, what about you? A Fluke or Flea is a good first choice. I picked up a Johnson UK-120 as a first uke for about $30 (starter uke, cheap price). The action was great, the intonation was fine, it stayed in tune well. But it's a thin mahogany and sounds just a little bit 'toyish' if you know what I mean. But you'll learn your chords and strumming techniques with no problems. You might try a Lanikai or an Oscar Schmidt if you want to stay under $100 as well. Check out http://www.music123.com. And congratulations! The world needs more Ukers!

There are more, I'm sure. Try doing a search for uke or ukelele in the subject...

Hey, we ARE neighbors. I was just at Chin's two weeks ago.

I've been playing guitar for years so it was a fun and easy transition to the uke. Do you play guitar?
