I'm from Canton, what about you? A Fluke or Flea is a good first choice. I picked up a Johnson UK-120 as a first uke for about $30 (starter uke, cheap price). The action was great, the intonation was fine, it stayed in tune well. But it's a thin mahogany and sounds just a little bit 'toyish' if you know what I mean. But you'll learn your chords and strumming techniques with no problems. You might try a Lanikai or an Oscar Schmidt if you want to stay under $100 as well. Check out http://www.music123.com. And congratulations! The world needs more Ukers!
