Saturnus brand Arraks Punsch Extract. A bartender I encountered recently had a bottle of this stuff and made me a drink using it (along with Ten Cane rum and lime juice). It is good, interesting stuff. Couldn't find any sources for it on the web... Searches for Saturnus and Arraks mostly came up with vintage (empty) bottles. Any of you bar experts have insight on this stuff? |

The Okolemaluna! drink recipe book has a couple of recipes on pg 20 that use Arrack. I always wondered what it was. ARRACK SLING (MALAY) Put into highball glass with 2 ice cubes, fill with club soda, stir, and serve. Add a little sugar if desired. ARRACK THIRST-QUENCHER Put juice and arrack into a large glass, stir well, add 2 ice cubes, fill with club soda, stir lightly and serve. |

Found this in my search for Arrack under Kono's pselling: http://www.expats.org.uk/features/theblueflame.html This is instructions (meant for UK expatriates living in the middle east!) for making your own still! Scroll to the bottom though, and you'll get recipes for making your own Cointreau, Creme de Cacao, and other useful ingredients. Cool! |

Could it have any connection to Batavia Arrack that Atomic Cocktail was looking for? |

Ah, thanks for the alert, Utopian. I did do a search before I posted, but I had a different spelling (mine came straight for the label, but I am sure this word's 'proper' spelling varies widely). Anyway, Ahu over at FOM dug up the officual site for the stuff (I searched for THAT too, for hours, and came up with nothing... I think my internet is broken). http://www.saturnus.se/eng/produkter/likorextrakt.html I am gonna see if they ship to the US of A. If I have to buy a case, who wants some? |

I have a bottle I bought at the Alpine Village market in Torrance, CA, thanks to Atomic Cocktail's tip. James, you should go there next time you're down there, as it's a really cool place. I also got some Hungarian apricot brandy that is quite dry like an eau de vie. |

I thought that Saturnus looked familiar. They also make the Glogg mix that I used to get at Trader Joe's. That was good stuff heated and mixed with red wine or vodka. I don't think I ever tried it with rum. [ Edited by: PiPhiRho 2007-01-23 13:56 ] |

If I'm not mistaken, that's the stuff that shows up in old tiki recipes as "Swedish Punch" |

Correct, but I think it's spelled "Punsch". See other topic: |
