I think that pretty much every tiki or surf band here on TC has samples of their music on their MySpace or band web site that you can audition to see if it is what you like. I would recommend doing that.

Most of my Tiki stuff is not up-beat, but there’s also surf.

And Waitiki is great!

I just ordered my copies of "Rendezvous in Okonkuluku" and "Charred Mammal Flesh" based on the glowing reviews/recommendations from this site. I hope I like what I hear considering I can't preview some of the tracks; Waitiki's web site is currently under construction and my computer currently has some beef with MySpace. Ah well...no turning back now!

I think I like the SURF type music a little better for me. But when my tiki hut is done I want to be able to play a mix of all. Who would you guys suggest fo more of the "SURF" type music which is upbeat?? Thanks again guys.

In terms of surf music, there are a couple of avenues you could explore. First and foremost, if you're looking for vocals, I'd say pick up the career spanning Beach Boys' "Sounds Of Summer: The Very Best Of The Beach Boys." Or you could choose "Summer U.S.A.: The Best Of The Rip Chords." If instrumentals are more your liking, I'd say check out "The Best Of Santo & Johnny." The hit song "Sleep Walk" is a classic '50s surf gem! The Ventures play a mean surf guitar as do Los Straitjackets and you definitely can't go wrong with ANY of Dick Dale's albums on Capitol. He was featured in nearly all of the Frankie & Annette "Beach Party" movies of the '60s. I my opinion, it doesn't get much more upbeat than that!

You can purchase all of Dick Dale's Capitol albums at http://www.sundazed.com - the remastering is excellent if I do say so myself! Once there, look for:
"Surfer's Choice"
"King Of The Surf Guitar"
"Summer Surf"
"Mr. Eliminator"
and/or "Checkered Flag"

The Rip Chords' compilation can also be found at the Sundazed Records' web site, and the music of The Ventures and The Beach Boys is usually readily available at your neighborhood big box record store. Check Amazon for Los Straitjackets. Their Christmas album, although not what you're looking for, is loads of fun.

I hope this helps!

Thanks so much this does help and I like the varity the surf music brings. I am going to have that, some steel guitar type and then exotic type and then I think I will cover the bases. Thanks again
