In terms of surf music, there are a couple of avenues you could explore. First and foremost, if you're looking for vocals, I'd say pick up the career spanning Beach Boys' "Sounds Of Summer: The Very Best Of The Beach Boys." Or you could choose "Summer U.S.A.: The Best Of The Rip Chords." If instrumentals are more your liking, I'd say check out "The Best Of Santo & Johnny." The hit song "Sleep Walk" is a classic '50s surf gem! The Ventures play a mean surf guitar as do Los Straitjackets and you definitely can't go wrong with ANY of Dick Dale's albums on Capitol. He was featured in nearly all of the Frankie & Annette "Beach Party" movies of the '60s. I my opinion, it doesn't get much more upbeat than that! You can purchase all of Dick Dale's Capitol albums at http://www.sundazed.com - the remastering is excellent if I do say so myself! Once there, look for: The Rip Chords' compilation can also be found at the Sundazed Records' web site, and the music of The Ventures and The Beach Boys is usually readily available at your neighborhood big box record store. Check Amazon for Los Straitjackets. Their Christmas album, although not what you're looking for, is loads of fun. I hope this helps! |
