Cocktail Nation 358 Robert Drasnin RIP

A change of plans for this weeks show. Originally we intended to bring you a comedy special but late last week news came through of the passing of Robert Drasnin the movie and tv music composer and ofcourse the man behind Voodoo and Voodoo 2 exotica albums.
His good friend and friend of Tiki author, Jeff Chenault will stop by to talk about his friend.
Also on the show we talk about the difficulties in living a vintage life today and some suggestions as to how to get or maintain that authenticity

Has anyone listened to this guy? Cocktail Nation, what is this 1997? Not bad tunes the whole
thing sounds like a bad facade, never heard of the guy, but seems to be stuck in the "Swingers"
era of Lounge (mid 90's) Upside is the show is technically okay, downside is the whole persona,
as if Australia is some hub of hepster tiki swingers. Reminds me a little of a show up of Los
Altos CA on a college radio station, KFJC, I believe. They do a good job.

This week we celebrate the life of the man that many feel is the creator of the Mambo which took the world by storm in the fifties, I’ve got some very cool events to book some flights to, and a very cool book to read which I promise will make your next party one that people will be talking about for months to come. So join me for a trip to the world of swank with the biggest names in neo lounge today and some classic lounge that never goes out of date.

I dunno, aren't we all a little stuck in the past here when you come down to it? Thanks for bumping - good stuff. I'll have to give some more of his shows a listen.

(That's two Aussie radio/podcast hosts I've found on here now)

TM

If i had a choice between the rock music people try and pass off as being retro mid century, i will take the swinger sound any day. Koop is a guy that actually lives the lifestyle. Not sure why you would come here and rip on the guy like this.

Thanks for the kind words Lucas. Not sure what Frank's issue is.
As you know some of us do live the life fully and don't really care what the squares do. So for now I will continue to play lounge and exotica and support the new bands that are making the scene.
